**About the RTBU**
The RTBU represents the industrial interests of workers across the transport sector of rail, tram and bus operations. We have a proud history dating back to 1861 of defending workers' rights and conditions. The union is actively growing our membership and routinely appears before courts and tribunals.

**Role Description**
This full-time position is for an Organiser for the Tram & Bus Division of the RTBU NSW, based out of our offices in Pitt Street Sydney. The position reports to the Branch Secretary of the Union.

The role of an Organiser requires an individual who has superior communication and relationship-building skills and is able to adapt to changes around them quickly and confidently. The overarching responsibility of the Organiser is the implementation of contemporary campaign and organising strategies at the workplace or industry level, which focuses on union growth and membership activism, delivering on issues of member interest and Union priority.

**Core Accountabilities**
- Implement and participate in workplace campaigns and organising strategies that are based on union priorities and increase member numbers, grow member activism, and develop workplace leadership that delivers on issues of member interest.
- Source and recruit new delegates, and provide support, guidance, tools, and resources to encourage delegate development and member empowerment at the local level.
- Maintain high visibility with Delegates, members, and employers using contemporary organising methods.
- Ensure the day-to-day issues of members and workplaces are dealt with in a professional and timely manner and that the RTBU has a proactive and visible presence.
- Contribute to the overall knowledge of the organising function of the RTBU, ensuring peers, colleagues, and other Divisions are supported while carrying out their duties and responsibilities.
- Assist delegates with the operation of internal member committees, workplace organising committees, mass member meetings, and meetings with stakeholders.
- Ensure local level issues are dealt with at the workplace level and those requiring industrial expertise or higher order representation or advocacy are referred to the RTBU's Industrial officers for resolution or action.
- Assist in the development of industry plans and follow specific organising plans.
- Provide local-level information relating to organising activities to key stakeholders, as and when required or directed, for input decision-making and planning.
- Identify and keep abreast of future issues requiring research and policy or membership services development, enabling the Union to remain viable and relevant to its members.
- Maintain productive, supportive, and cooperative relationships with the RTBU team as a whole, ensuring information is available to everyone, situations are clearly reported and explained, and feedback is provided.
- Work proactively to identify potential campaigns and support current campaigns on whole of union issues.
- Perform any other duties, tasks, or projects the employer may assign to you, having regard for your skills, training, and experience.

**Qualifications and Criteria**
- Demonstrated contemporary experience implementing and leading workplace campaigns and organising strategies that are based on union priorities, increase member numbers, and grow member activism that delivers on issues of member interest.
- Demonstrated experience recruiting, leading, and supporting delegates and members.
- Proven communication (written & oral), interpersonal, negotiation, facilitation, and networking skills with the ability to clearly communicate information, explain situations, and maintain strategic relationships with key stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of Industrial Relations Legislation to facilitate referral of high order matters to the Industrial Officer for action or resolution.
- Proven ability to manage reporting requirements and deadlines.
- At least 5 years experience desirable.

The terms and conditions of employment will be in accordance with the contract offered.

**Salary**: Dependent of experience, plus government superannuation guarantee of 11.5%
