Overview

Union Lawyer/Industrial Officer (0-2 Years PAE) role at Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU). The NSW Branch of the RTBU has approximately 15,000 members and advances their interests through strategic advocacy, disputation, and litigation in various Court and tribunals. This is a full-time on-site role in Sydney CBD reporting to the Director of Legal.

Responsibilities
  • Represent and advocate on behalf of union members.
  • Negotiate enterprise agreements and handle industrial disputes.
  • Provide industrial relations advice and prepare case materials, including evidence and submissions.
  • Appear in the Fair Work Commission (FWC).
  • Brief barristers and conduct workplace visits.
  • Conduct research and analysis on workplace issues and policies.
  • Facilitate training and information sessions for members.
Qualifications
  • Advocacy, negotiation, and industrial relations experience.
  • Skills in case preparation and handling industrial disputes.
  • Legal research and analytical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience in union or worker representation is a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in Law or equivalent, or working towards the same.
Essential Criteria
  • Australian resident or citizen.
  • Driver license.
  • Law degree (or part-completed).
  • Willingness to work in office.
Remuneration (p.a.)
  • $85-110k (depending on experience).
  • 5 weeks annual leave, 15 days personal/carers leave, 12 ADOs.
  • Practising certificate/CPD costs covered.
