Aps6 - Project Coordinator - Nves Regulator
1 week ago
**Contact Officer**:
**Closing Date**:
**11.59pm AEST, Friday 20 September 2024**
**Our Department Values**
Our values set the direction for what it means to work in our department. They inform the standard and expectations of behaviours, skills and capabilities and the attributes we currently have, will continually work to achieve and develop, and that we use to acknowledge and attract, retain and recruit into our department.
**The opportunity we have available**
**About the Division**:
The Surface Transport Emissions and Policy Division develops and implements national reforms in surface transport policy and regulation (maritime, shipping, rail and road transport) with the aim of achieving efficient, productive, safe, and sustainable outcomes that enhance Australia's international competitiveness and promote decarbonisation. NVES is a big part of that.
The NVES is the Australian Government's new policy to reduce light vehicle carbon emissions - essentially, Australia's CO2 standard for cars. For context, in 2023, light vehicles represented 60% of all transport emissions, and 11.4% of Australia's total carbon emissions. These emissions are increasing, with transport projected to be Australia's largest source of emissions by 2030.
The NVES is a significant contribution to Australia's Net Zero ambitions and garners substantial media, ministerial and executive interest across Transport and Energy portfolios. Under the NVES, vehicle suppliers will be encouraged to import low and zero emissions vehicles. The NVES is expected to achieve 321 million tonnes of abatement, $95 billion in fuel savings and $5 billion in health savings out to 2050.
The NVES Regulator will ensure industry complies with the requirements of the NVES, including reporting CO2 emissions for new vehicles supplied, and will manage the emissions trading register.
**About the People**
We are a committed group of public servants who want to get this step change in Australia's emissions management right. We are communicators, graduates, regulators, business analysts, generalists, specialists, collaborators, and people who deliver efficiently and effectively. The position will sit within the new NVES Regulator, in a small Coordination group. The position will have oversight of the work of two branches (four sections) who are driving big pieces of work to establish the regulator and the plan.
**What will you do?**
- Provide operational support to project management, and facilitate administrative and coordination requirements;
- Contribute to keeping schedules and projects on track;
- Coordinate reporting activities, while working closely with project leads;
- Support business and risk planning, including identifying, investigating, analysing and/or mitigating potential risks to projects integrity, initiating appropriate action or escalating if necessary
- Resolve problems using expertise, taking the initiative to identify alternative courses of action;
- Work collaboratively across branches to monitor project governance and record keeping;
- Work flexibly, are proactive, and react quickly to changing priorities and deadlines; and
- Drive a large and complicated delivery agenda.
**Who are we looking for?**
**Successful applicants will need to be comfortable working in small teams, across branches and divisions, and with technical experts. To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate how you**:
- Achieve results and quality outcomes by working in a small team delivering multiple activities at any given time, often within tight timeframes.
- Communicate effectively both written and verbal, delivering information in a variety of formats for a range of audiences.
- Collaborate across diverse teams, using your exceptional interpersonal and engagement skills to engage with senior leaders and a wide variety of stakeholders, valuing different perspectives, contributions and backgrounds.
- Have a growth mindset with a willingness to continue to learn, develop, and foster an environment for team members to do the same.
- Think strategically, evaluating information from a variety of sources to make connections and sound decisions while exercising good judgement.
**What else can we offer?**
**Eligibility requirements**
- **Qualifications**: Minimum of 12 months experience working in a project coordination or management position.
**How to apply**
Applications for this opportunity close at **11.59pm AEST, Friday 20 September 2024**.
