**The Position**:
Working within a highly complex and dynamic organisational environment this position provides management oversight of the Work Health and Safety function for the St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria.
The position ensures the development of the WHS strategy alongside the ongoing development, legal compliance, coordination, monitoring and maintenance of the Society's Health and Safety Systems and associated initiatives to achieve this objective.
A key opportunity for this position is the management and delivery of WH&S across SVDP. The position requires significant stakeholder management delivering functional activities across multiple work sites, and a diverse workforce across a wide geographic spread.
- Develop a WH&S Strategy which drives and supports a safety culture across the organization that encompasses a workforce, volunteer and membership community
- Manage the implementation of agreed organisational strategies, initiatives and systems, working cooperatively with all stakeholders involved in the implementation process
- Manage the development and rollout of relevant and purposeful H&S training programs in liaison with the Organisational Development team and other stakeholders, including the OHS Steering Committee and Sub-Committees with the aim of developing H&S capability and capacity across the Society
- Monitor reported H&S incidents and injuries reported and identify trends with a view to implement prevention initiatives
- Provide training and guidance to staff and volunteers on WHS protocols, emergency procedures, and safe work practices.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Maintain accurate records of safety-related incidents, inspections, and training sessions.
- Foster a culture of safety awareness and accountability throughout the organisation.
- Convene and facilitate the Society's OHS Steering Committee and Sub-Committees, ensuring preparation of agendas and minutes by the delegated committee member, and an effective reporting process
**The Person**:
- Extensive knowledge of workplace health and safety legislation
- Demonstrated experience in managing a Health and Safety function in a complex stakeholder environment across multiple work sites, and a diverse workforce across a wide geographic spread
- Exceptional influencing skills with the ability to quickly build trusted relationships across all levels of an organisation.
- Development and implementation of a WHS strategy with associated programs of work and/or initiatives to drive a culture of safety
- Proven experience in continuous improvement of Health and Safety Management Systems, including workers compensation
- Experience in developing and delivering Health and Safety training (general and risk specific) to diverse groups
- An ability to negotiate and reach outcomes benefiting different stakeholder groups
- Experience working in a non-profit or community-based organization is advantageous.
