**Our Journey**:
An exciting project initiated by the Department of Health is being undertaken by Monash Health, in conjunction with other health networks. Through the Alternative Pathways project, the Adaptive Hand Therapy Clinic will provide evidence-based and effective intervention for patients with specified hand conditions that respond well to non-surgical treatment, thereby enabling increased numbers of people to be removed from surgical waiting lists.
We have a full time Senior Clinician position which will work primarily in the Adaptive Hand Therapy Clinic, with a small amount of work likely in the existing Plastics and Ortho clinics. With a team of 6.4 EFT, Monash Health has a large, acute Hand Therapy service, servicing a predominantly trauma caseload from orthopaedic and plastic surgery referrals across all age groups. This project offers an opportunity to work with a non-trauma caseload delivering effective patient-centred outcomes. Clinicians with general hand therapy experience should consider applying.
**A Day in the Life**:
Hand Therapy service is primarily based at Dandenong hospital, with satellite clinics at Clayton and Casey. Hand Therapy has a continual focus on service improvement for the patient journey and we pride ourselves on delivering best care to maximise a patient's return to function. We have a comprehensive supervision and professional development program both in the specialised area of Hand Therapy as well as in more general career and professional areas. The Senior Clinician will be part of our Seniors team across hand therapy and the bed-based service, affording growth and learning in leadership.
**What we're looking for in you**:
AHPRA accredited Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist with highly developed skills in treating a broad range of hand conditions, including acute hand injury. The successful applicant is recognised as a clinical specialist within the Hand Therapy field and will drive innovation and excellence within Monash Health. Clinical teaching is a core activity involving staff supervision and active support of student placements.
The Senior Clinician will be a strong supporter of research and evidence-based practice and will contribute to raise the profile of Hand Therapy within Monash Health and across the state. The applicant will be involved in service development, working parties and clinical groups as needed, working with the Hand Therapy team and out-patient department to provide an excellent service and implementing service changes as required.
