**About the role**:
Merri-bek City Council has a fantastic opportunity for a Team Leader Revenue Services to join our Finance team. We are looking for someone to take on a key leadership role, ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the revenue services team. This position will lead the team to ensure accuracy and effective management of rates, special charges and receipting. The position provides advice and support to the revenue team, customer service staff, customers and other stakeholders within the specialist area of rates and special charges.
You will be a self-motivated person with highly developed time management skills and demonstrated analytical skills. You will also have experience in a Revenue and Rates environment within Local Government. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with a range of stakeholders is essential.
You will play an essential role within the team with your high level of attention to detail and effective communication contributing to our success. The role reports to the Unit Manager Finance and will be responsible for leading the team and ensuring high performance and continuous improvement, while meeting regulatory timeframes/requirements associated with the revenue and debt.
**Skills and experience require to perform the role**:
- Extensive experience in a revenue and rates environment within Local Government or tertiary qualifications in business or accounting with experience in revenue offices
- Proven leadership experience and the ability to motivate, develop and mentor individuals and a team
- High level verbal and written communication skills with the ability to comfortably interact with internal and external customers
- An effective team player, with the ability to work cooperatively and positively in a small team dealing with sensitive and confidential information.
- A strong commitment to customer service
- Ability to gain co-operation and assistance from internal and external customers and deal with difficult customers in a calm and professional manner
**Key responsibilities required to perform this role**:
- Ensure all rates notices are generated and sent out in accordance with published service level agreements and Council Policy
- Oversee the supplementary valuation process, including liaising with the Valuer-General Victoria and the property related processes and tasks
- Oversee debt recovery action in accordance with Council's Hardship Policy to ensure the efficient and effective collection of rates and charges
- Ensure communication and consultation with internal and external customers and stakeholders is maintained at the highest level
- Actively ensure Council's revenue administration policies are adhered to; rates are accurately generated, and property and rates records accurately maintained
