About us
The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) is the leading advocate for surgical standards, professionalism and surgical education in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. The College is a not-for-profit organisation that represents more than 8600 surgeons and 1300 surgical trainees and Specialist International Medical Graduates.
RACS also supports healthcare and surgical education in the Asia-Pacific region and is a substantial funder of surgical research. There are nine surgical specialties in Australasia being: Cardiothoracic Surgery, General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Urology and Vascular Surgery.
About the role
You will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day financial operations, ensuring compliance, and helping to maintain accurate financial records. This role provides you with an opportunity for hands-on involvement in a variety of financial processes, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives within the team.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Operations & Reconciliations
Perform timely and accurate reconciliations across bank accounts, creditors, and month-end journals.
Investigate discrepancies and ensure financial accuracy through strong analytical skills.
Manage employee and third-party expense processes while ensuring compliance and offering user support.
Oversee vendor setup and contribute to process improvements in creditor management.
Compliance & External Reporting
Assist in preparing taxation and regulatory reporting (e.g., BAS, FBT, AoNZ GST).
Support audit preparation and statutory reporting.
Stakeholder Engagement
Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to resolve issues and enhance financial processes.
Serve as a key contact for New Zealand operations and training coordinators.
Contribute to finance-related projects aimed at system and process enhancements.
Maintain procedural documentation and assist with ad-hoc tasks as needed.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
Practical experience in a finance department within a medium-sized organisation.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft applications, particularly Excel and Word.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to work collaboratively and maintain positive working relationships across teams.
Experience reconciling general ledger accounts and managing competing priorities.
