The Art and Design Technician works under the instruction of the Head of Art and Design and teaching staff in support of the Art and Design programs across the three schools within the Secondary College (Years 7-12). The technician works in a team environment with other educational support staff and teachers in the Art and Design Department. The Art and Design Department offers an extensive curriculum that includes VCE Art, Media, Product Design Technology Fashion, Product Design Technology Wood, Studio Arts Fine Art, Studio Arts Photography, Visual Communication Design, and IB Visual Arts.
Some of your primary duties and responsibilities will include the following:
- Assess the needs of each studio area (Ceramics, Printmaking, Fashion, Photography, Wood Technology, Art, Visual Communication and Design)
- Answer any inquiries that students may have
- In consultation with the HOD and Exhibitions and Events Coordinator assist in the construction and preparation of all exhibition components
- Maintain all borrowing records for Photography, Fashion, VCD and general equipment
- Arrange repair and maintenance of Art & Design equipment
- Test new acquisitions thoroughly and manage and resolve issues prior to roll out
- Support staff in the Art and Design Department
- Regularly maintain classrooms
- Stack and unload kilns
- Assist with maintaining the Art & Design database
- Update all timetables, meetings, and events calendars
- Ensure all stock is coded for ease of use by teachers
- Enter all required stock details on to the TASS system
- Follow-up student late returns
- Oversee OH&S practices and requirements that include MSDS records
- Assist with the administration of annual professional photography sessions

About You
- Highly competent in the use of technology
- Willingness to attend Department functions/meetings as required
- Knowledgeable about a broad range of art form techniques and processes
- Ability to work well within a group setting and problem solve quickly and efficiently
- Ability to lift and manoeuvre heavy objects within OH&S regulations
- A current Working with Children Check and Police Check
- Be open to ideas, striving for excellence and have a high level of integrity
