The Children's Cancer Institute is the only independent medical research institute in Australia dedicated to research into the causes, prevention, better treatments and ultimately a cure for childhood cancer. More than 40 years on, our vision remains unchanged - to save the lives of all children with cancer and improve their long-term health, through research.

This position is a vital support role for the diagnostics and research performed by the Children's Cancer Institute. The Tumour Bank Technical Assistant provides day to day support for CCI's relationship with hospitals around Australia and New Zealand, internal CCI researchers as well as our key partnering hospitals
- Sydney Children's Hospital and the Children's Hospital Westmead. This position assists the Tumour Bank Coordinator with specimen reception for the institute and therefore ultimately supports the research division to the highest standard.

The Tumour Bank Technical Assistant requires strong compliance to ethical and regulatory requirements and highly developed verbal and written communication skills to ensure samples, information and reporting can be provided on strict deadlines to various stakeholders and uphold the high standards of performance by the Scientific Services Team.

**Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to**:

- High quality accurately labelled processed patient samples, ready in time for accurate storage of samples and the associated data
- Providing for accurate information on all new patients and samples received including sample and patient information, consents, and clinically relevant information
- Complete timely collection and receipt as required and processing of samples as per instructions
- Isolation of DNA, RNA and protein from patient samples from different source material
- Preparation and shipping of patient sample-derived DNA and RNA for sequencing
- Assists with maintaining an accurate Research Archive and Cell Line Master Bank
- Responsible for maintaining high quality relationships with Tumour Bank Stakeholders and informing stakeholders of new information as it is received
- Ensure privacy of all participants is upheld to the highest level
- Support best practice approaches to banking samples and research
- Comply with appropriate Safe Working Documentation for Tumour Bank and its activities/staff
- Accountable for ensuring patient samples are processed according to the regulatory requirements for handling of human samples and according to Institute protocols
- Accountable for complying with relevant legislation, guidelines, and Australian standards

**Qualifications, experience, and skills required**:

- Tertiary qualifications in science or relevant experience
- 1+ years relevant laboratory experience highly desirable
- Experience with PC2 and WHS standards and behaviour highly desirable
- Experience with correct manual handling techniques
- High level technical skills
- Excellent IT skills
- Ability to quickly respond to situations as they arise
- Ability to work to deadlines
- Excellent attention to detail
- Demonstrated initiative
- Flexible attitude to work
- Ability to maintain confidential information
- Organisational skills
