The REA Legal Team (affectionately known as the Legal Eagles) are a trusted and valued partner of the REA business.
We work closely with all our lines of business and are at the forefront of our most critical decision-making processes.What the role is all aboutThe Legal Counsel supports the Legal Team in the following ways:Provide legal advice and recommendations that are pragmatic, commercial, timely and cost effective.
Areas of advice include general contracts, data, financial services regulation, AML/CTF Act & Rules, privacy and spam;Identify legal risk and work closely with the business to deliver advice that balances legal risk with commercial objectives;Draft and review agreements and other legal documents;Be a team player in assisting the Legal Team to support REA's Financial Services business (which includes Mortgage Choice and Campaign Agent;Promote REA company values and encourage teamwork through multi-business and key stakeholder collaboration; andBe accountable for identifying and managing long term risks associated with decisions and proactively develop plans to manage these within the scope of your role.Who we're looking forLaw degree, current Legal Practicing Certificate or eligible for a current Legal Practicing Certificate;Minimum 3 years post admission experience in either private practice or in house (in-house experience or secondment experience preferred);Ability to provide commercially focused legal support, particularly in the area of financial services.
Areas of expertise should include consumer credit, AML/CTF and payment systems regulation.
Expertise in privacy and/or spam would be looked upon favourably;Excellent drafting, negotiation and communication skills with both legal and non-legal stakeholders;Ability to manage a large range of matters in a fast-paced environment; andAbility to contribute effectively to a high-performing team.The REA experienceThe physical, mental, emotional and financial health of our people is something we'll never stop caring about.
