Provide and execute engineering support activities for Hitachi Energy's portfolio of Power Quality Enclosure Products - primarily the ABBACUS Metal Enclosed Capacitor Banks (MECB) family, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and LV capacitor bank products, with a specific focus on production, enclosure design and manufacture. Develop into the lead technical reference for Hitachi Energy's Power Quality Enclosure Systems.
**Responsibilities**:
- Ensure production staff understand the correct procedures for any new introduced parts/products. Act as reference point for clarification to production staff in areas of responsibility.
- Maintain correct work instructions and ABRA's as required.
- Utilise ECR/ECN process and HVPLM (Windchill) for all changes and modifications implemented.
- Ensure drawing databases and registers are correct, ensure revision control is maintained both internally (SAP, production) and externally (suppliers etc.)
- Interpret control and wiring schematic drawings and can identify errors/issues with projects during assembly.
- Utilize Lean (or similar) methodologies to identify and implement improved work practices, and/or tools and jigs to optimize manufacture processes. Lead and execute targeted projects.
- Engage with production staff to ensure KPI's regarding schedule and quality are maintained.
- Develop functional testing requirements for products/components and implement testing program. Identify clear performance guidelines.
- Ensure products maintain compliance with performance requirements and relevant standards. Initiate type testing as required.
- Initiate investigation into reported issues/failures and either lead or participate in the issue resolution activities. May require on-site travel and intervention.
- Ensures smooth implementation of new products (or product features) through coordination of multifunctional teams.
- Identify improvements to existing products - including but not limited to function, performance, components, and cost. As required, produce justification for change and develop action plans to implement. Oversee all activities related to completion of change.
- Identify Design-to-Value (DtV) opportunities and drive the applicable process. Ensure correct recording of impacts.
- Establish and maintain contacts with suppliers for technical support, to improve material quality, and/or to decrease costs.
- Obtain and evaluate prototype products, and develop technical tests as required.
- Support the supply chain department with analyzing quality issues, sourcing alternative components, and reporting.
- Provide input to the marketing/sales department to assist with the generation of product documentation and technical marketing material.
- Provide technical or production-based support to help achieve sales order and revenue targets and resolve technical issues
- Provide installation and operation training to internal and external customers
- Ensure safe work practices and procedures are followed at all times
- Actively report any injuries, incidents, hazards and near miss events. Model safe work behaviors and pro-actively identify hazards and risks.
- Ensure any new components or procedures introduced are done so with a consideration of any HSE and regulatory impacts.
Your background
- BEng (electrical, robotics/mechatronics, or mechanical) - electrical preferred.
- 3 years' experience in production and manufacturing environment. Electrical industry (preferred).
- Familiarity with MV electrical distribution networks and power quality fundamentals advantageous.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. High level attention to detail.
- Computer literacy, including proficiency in complete Microsoft Office suite.
- Ability to read and manipulate 3D CAD models and drawings. Experience with CREO / Solidworks preferred.
- Familiar with Lean Manufacturing or equivalent processes.
- Highly organized with a focus on timeliness and the ability to meet deadlines amidst changing priorities and activities.
- Ability to implement change and influence people to accept/adhere to changes.
- Experience in coordinating stakeholders in diverse functional areas.
- Establishes good relationships with customers and colleagues; Relates well to people at all functional levels.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
- Highly proactive, flexible, and with demonstrable problem-solving skills.
- Basic knowledge of business financial and commercial aspects. Comfortable tracking project planned costs vs. actual.
