**About the Opportunity**

The Work Package Lead will coordinate ASC's approach to safety and supporting strategy through engagement with relevant regulatory bodies (ARPANSA, ANNPSR, EPA) and other key stakeholders within the submarine build enterprise (ASA, ANI, BAE). This role ensures ASC's commitment to safety, security, and safeguards during the transition to a nuclear operation.

The Work Package Lead will collaborate with the nuclear team in addition to the wider SSN AUKUS Infrastructure and Build Readiness IPTS, to ensure a smooth transition between license holders throughout the build process. This role will lead and manage other engineers/SMEs to ensure program delivery timescales.

This role represents a rare opportunity to work on the pioneering SSN AUKUS Build Program, delivering an essential sovereign capability for Australia.

**Note**: This role is established early in ASCs Nuclear pathway. Therefore, this role will change with the evolving needs of the business.

This role is a full-time opportunity based at our Osborne site in SA

**Responsibilities**
- Lead the design and development of nuclear safety regulations, risk management and technical processes in complex and multi-faceted environment
- Create a safety justification plan and integrate various safety assessment and compliance measures throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure all nuclear activities comply with stringent relevant safety and regulatory standards. Conduct safety assessments and implement necessary measures to mitigate risks to a minimised level that are _As Low As Reasonably Practicable_ (ALARP)
- Provide technical leadership and support to the Nuclear and Capability Department (NCD). Address and resolve technical challenges, ensuring that all activities are conducted safely, efficiently and effectively.
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with nuclear operations. Develop and implement robust risk management plans to address potential issues and ensure the safety and reliability of nuclear systems.
- Maintain clear and effective communication with all stakeholders, including project updates, technical reports, and regulatory compliance. Provide regular updates on nuclear operations.
- Foster a culture of safety and accountability, making it essential for stakeholders to stay updated on industry best practices and emerging safety technologies.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in nuclear operation processes and systems. Implement innovative solutions to enhance efficiency, safety, and performance.

**About you**
- Tertiary Qualifications in Engineering, Nuclear, Safety or a related field. A Master's or Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering is highly desirable.
- Chartered Engineer or equivalent certification in nuclear engineering.
- Demonstrated experience in leading complex and multifaceted programs, requiring a deep understanding of safety regulations, risk management and technical process.
- Experience coordinating with a team of technical personnel in complex and unique industrial environments.
- Knowledge of systems engineering and 'requirements management' principles.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
- Self-motivated, and able to manage ambiguity in complex environments and visualise solutions.
- Exceptional and effective time management, planning and organizational skills.
- Ability to consistently and positively manage multiple stakeholders and priorities simultaneously.
- Decision making ability and leadership skills.
- Specific experience within the Defence Shipbuilding or Nuclear Industries will be highly regarded.
- Experience delivering nuclear projects / cultural transformation / role identification will be highly regarded

**Eligibility**

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance to an NV1 level. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
