**Position Title**:Primary School Class Teacher**

**Position Overview**

Class teaching at Shearwater, the Mullumbimby Steiner School rests on the fundamental understanding that the teacher accompanies the class from Class 1 to 7. This journey requires a vocational commitment to ongoing professional and personal development and the anthroposophical principles underlying Steiner education.

**Position Objective**

To provide a caring and relevant Steiner educational environment and learning experience for all students within the class throughout their primary school journey.

**Key Accountabilities**
- Develop, implement and evaluate artistic, engaging and effective educational programs with Steiner pedagogical practice meeting NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) requirements, and the individual needs of students as they relate to the primary school curriculum.
- Adhere to and model the Steiner ethos and philosophy throughout the delivery of education.
- Develop and maintain a nurturing, positive learning environment and attend to the pastoral care of all students.
- Establish and maintain positive and supportive relationships and effective communication with parents and carers.
- Willingness to participate fully as a member of the College of Teachers.

**Key Selection Criteria**
- Demonstrated experience delivering the primary curriculum within a Steiner context, while employing an engaging and creative approach to your teaching practice.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of current teaching practices, theory, and principles of Steiner primary education.
- An awareness and understanding of children's different developmental stages and how these manifest, with an ability to adjust your teaching approach accordingly.
- A proven commitment to reflective teaching practice and ongoing professional development.
- A caring and nurturing manner while engaging with children inside and outside the classroom; holding a safe and positive space for children in care.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and oral and written communication skills.
- A willing and enthusiastic team member, including participation in all aspects of the Shearwater community, including co-curricular activities such as festivals and open days.

**Essential**
- Hold relevant teaching qualifications and experience for accreditation with NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).
- Current Working With Children Check (WWCC)
- Demonstrated understanding of the principles of Steiner education.

**Desirable**
- Steiner teaching qualifications.
- Experience as a class teacher in a Steiner school.
- Current First Aid certification.
- Preparedness to teach the class through to Class 7.
