The Executive Director of Schools invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced personnel for this permanent full-time position of Support Class Teacher (Autism), commencing 27 January 2026 until the end of the 2028 School Year. This position is anticipated to be a three-year appointment. After the completion of the three-year term, placement within a systemic school will be negotiated.

This position involves teaching a class of students on the autism spectrum, coordinating enrolment and transition of eligible students, and supporting mainstream teachers with students with additional needs. The successful applicant will be responsible for creating a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment tailored to the learning needs of the students enrolled.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Qualifications to teach Religious Education or willingness to undertake relevant study.
  • Be an active and committed Catholic or demonstrate willingness to support the ethos of the Catholic school.
  • Special Education qualifications and/or experience teaching in a specialised setting.
  • Ability to provide appropriate interventions for students on the autism spectrum.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills to lead, mentor, and collaborate with support staff, teachers, parents, external agencies, and the community.
  • Strong skills in integrating Information and Communication Technologies for students with disabilities.
  • Understanding of positive behaviour approaches and ability to develop positive, innovative support strategies for students with challenging behaviours.
  • Experience in designing and implementing individual education programs, differentiating learning to meet students' needs.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and monitor personalised learning plans, including literacy and numeracy practices, to access the curriculum.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Deep knowledge of the K-6 Curriculum and effective classroom practice.

DESIRABLE SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Understanding of CEDoW's Vision and Mission.
  • Awareness of the Diocesan Lighting the Way Strategic Plan.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Appropriate qualifications for teaching Primary K–6.
  • Accredited Level D to teach Religious Education or willingness to attain this within the first 5 years of employment.
  • Must be accredited with NESA to teach in NSW.

WORKING WITH CHILDREN CLEARANCE

A Working With Children Check (WWCC) is required prior to employment as this role is classified as child-related work.
