**About the RoleThe successful applicant will**:

- Lead projects and planning for the implementation of state-wide training
- Provide strategic and tactical support to regional leadership staff and principals to ensure that the intent of the departmental restrictive practices guidelines and standards are understood and enacted with fidelity by schools
- Provide high level strategic advice to senior officers of the department on issues relating to the elimination of restrictive practices in schools
- Contribute towards implementation of Recommendation 5.3 from the Review of education for students with disability in Queensland state schools report prepared by Deloitte Access Economics, to enhance clarity on the use of restrictive practices, including an expectation that the department should measure and monitor the use of restrictive practices with the aim of minimising use to the greatest extent possible.

The Principal Advisor, Restrictive Practice Standards has responsibility for the following:

- Support delivery of evidence based strategies and approaches to build more inclusive school learning environments.
- Contribute to planning and goal setting related to reducing and eliminating the use of restrictive practices, including associated projects
- Ensure the progression of strategies, initiatives and projects to improve educational outcomes by eliminating restrictive practices in schools, and assessing current status of schools and regions in the implementation of restrictive practice standards.
- Manage the implementation of procedures and guidelines associated with the use of restrictive practices in Queensland state schools.
- Work with schools and regions to build capability, skills and knowledge strategies to reduce and eliminate the use of restrictive practices.
- Lead projects and identify, develop and implement training packages for school leadership teams to strengthen the capability of schools to eliminate restrictive practices.
- Maintain regional data collection, analyse data and provide reports for the Director on restrictive practices in schools.
- Support school leadership teams and provide guidance in understanding and implementing departmental policy information to facilitate high quality instructional and behavioural practices.
- Establish and maintain effective liaison, communication and collaboration processes with regional services and schools, to lead the strategic implementation of restrictive practices procedures.
- Coordinate with regional senior officers and State Schools - Operations for advice on critical incidents, referring complaints or concerns to Integrity and Employee Relations or Student Protection if required.
