The Australian Defence Force (ADF) is looking to recruit to the position of the Defence Force Advocate. The Defence Force Advocate is a part-time statutory office holder appointed pursuant to section 58S of the Defence Act 1903 by the Minister for Defence, to advise the Chief of the Defence Force on matters concerning Australian Defence Force (ADF) remuneration. The Defence Force Advocate prepares submissions and represents the workplace interests of ADF members before the Defence Force Remuneration Tribunal (the Tribunal). The Tribunal's primary role is to inquire into, and determine, salaries and relevant allowances for ADF members.
In the course of performing these duties, the Defence Force Advocate is required to familiarise themselves with the various roles of ADF personnel through programmed visits in conjunction with members of the Tribunal. The Defence Force Advocate will be required to undertake some interstate travel, and participate in ADF-related activities, including travelling in Defence vehicles, aircraft and ships, and observing ADF members working in the field and at sea.
The duration of the appointment is three years with eligibility for re-appointment. Recent practice indicates an annual commitment of approximately 70 days per year, depending on the number of matters listed by the Tribunal.
