**Now Recruiting a Principal Scientist in Biochemistry - Full Time Ongoing Position**

The Principal Scientist in Biochemistry provides leadership and scientific oversight of laboratory operations. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and efficient test performance, managing workflow and staff, and fostering professional development within the team. The appointee will uphold the highest standards of scientific excellence, guide the laboratory's technical direction, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and mentorship.

**About the Role**

Scientific lead for the Unit, with responsibility for the distribution of work and staff, the efficient and accurate performance of tests and the guidance, training and education of staff within the Unit. The appointee is expected to show leadership and a high level of professional competence.
**Key result areas**:

- Responsible for the day-to-day operational functions of the laboratory.
- Provides leadership within the laboratory.
- Ensures that internal and external customer requirements regarding availability, reliability, security, performance and accessibility are satisfactorily delivered.
- Prioritisesthe activities of employees, ensuring thatservice delivery and system enhancements are satisfied or completed in a timely manner.
- Implement approved new services, standard of care testing, and develop capacity using new technologies.
- In conjunction with Pathology Leadership ascertain priorities and develop and implement strategies for innovation and advancement in service delivery.

**About You**

**Qualifications/registrations/**licences**:

- Bachelor's degree in science or in applied science, or an equivalent qualification
- Fellowship (AACB/AIMS/ASM) or PhD in relevant discipline.
- Experience in managing a pathology service with a comprehensive range of tests
- Minimum of 10 years' experience in relevant medical laboratory experience.

**Technical skills/knowledge/experience**:

- Appropriate training and experience.
- Demonstrated resource and personnel management skills.
- Extensive experience as a laboratory leader and senior scientist in relevant discipline service provision and
research.
- Proven ability to manage a NATA accredited laboratory and maintain NATA accreditation.
- Proven ability to supervise laboratory staff and students.
- Track record in designing and implementing new services.
- Peer-reviewed publications in disciplines of direct importance to Unit
- Demonstrated leadership capability
