The Role
The Directorate of Navy Governance is seeking 2 x EL 1 Policy Authors who are required to manage and implement the Navy Library's (N Library) authoring program on behalf of SO1 N Library. Policy Authors will also undertake editorial, research and analysis tasks to support development of publications across a broad range of Navy areas. The N Library is Navy's knowledge repository containing Navy's policy, doctrine, frameworks, systems of management, orders, processes, instructions and procedures that facilitate the achievement of the Navy Mission. In partnership with Navy subject matter experts, Policy Authors will be required to draft new Navy policy, frameworks and management systems. They will also assist the N Library business analysts with the authoring of Australian Navy Publications based on Navy's business process diagrams to ensure the processes are accessible at sea.
You will exercise both initiative and judgement in the development of Navy policies, frameworks and management systems, and display exceptional attention to detail when proofreading and editing publications on behalf of Navy's subject matter experts.
Applicants need to demonstrate skills and abilities in relation to some/all of the key duties being:
- Manage and implement the Navy Library's authoring program on behalf of SO1 N Library.
- Work collaboratively with Navy's subject matter experts to develop new publications covering policies, governance frameworks, systems of management, processes and procedures for inclusion in the N Library.
- Undertaking research, analysis and stakeholder engagement activities to collect and collate publication content, and the subsequent drafting, formatting and editing of that content into an N Library publication.
- Review, revise, format and edit complex documents including Navy's policy publications, governance frameworks, management systems and processes.
- Partner with N Library's business analysts to transition business process diagrams into publication content, ensuring consistency between the two.
- Develop an extensive understanding of Navy's governance framework and how it interacts with the One Defence model.
- Be/Become an expert in Defence writing with an ability to structure disparate content into a concise, readable format aligned to N Library structure and format.
- Assist stakeholders in understanding the N Library authoring process and their obligations with respect to achieving authoring outcomes.
About our Team
Working to the Director Navy Governance, you are part of a team that is embedded in a dynamic environment, and consisting of a blended workforce of ADF and APS supporting Navy Outcome 5. The N Library team is responsible for development and maintenance of the N Library which is Navy's online knowledge repository for policy, governance frameworks, doctrine, process and other documentation used by Navy to achieve its mission.
Our Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to author and edit complex documents, be highly motivated, have high levels of administrative and organisational abilities, excellent time management skills, and preferably a background in Defence (or similar) policy development or publication/doctrine development.
