Primary objective
As a member of the Royal Darwin and Palmerston Hospitals (RDPH) Central Sterilising Departments (CSD), coordinates the
delivery, receipt and return of all loan instruments and instruments for repair, and prepares instruments for tracking and sterilisation
in accordance with Australian Standards AS5369: 2023.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Coordinates Loan set arrivals with key stakeholders including Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) of CSD and ensures they are checked-
in and processed in time for patient use in accordance with AS5369:2024.
2. Ensure all loan sets are complete and correct with reference to the supplied documentation and escalates to NUM and company
representative if discrepancy occurs.
- Coordinates the return of loan sets, instruments and instruments for repairs with the identified provider and Transport Company
for pick-up.
4. Organise the service, repair and replacement of damaged instruments and the subsequent loans as delegated and approved by
the NUM of Operating Theatres.
Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and mentoring and role modelling behaviour.
Take responsibility for organisation and transport of loan equipment between Royal Darwin and Palmerston Hospitals with
clear and transparent documentation and communication.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Currently holds a Certificate III Health Service Assistance (Sterilising Services).
2. Demonstrated ability to coordinate the receipt and check-in of loan equipment for processing and sterilisation and subsequent
returns.
- Sound knowledge and ability to interpret AS5369: 2023, and other relevant policies and procedures in relation to sterilisation,
and track and trace requirements.
4. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of complex surgical instruments and equipment.
5. Previous experience working in a large sterilising department, Operating Theatre or similar, with knowledge of the care and
functioning of complex theatre instruments, along with competency in disinfection and sterilisation techniques and be deemed
competent to complete all aspects of this role based on AS5369:2023.
- Excellent communication skills both written and oral with demonstrated ability to convey messages clearly and accurately with
an ability to keep records of receipt of goods and ordering.
Ability to work co-operatively in a multi-cultural team environment and interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
Sound computer skills and ability to learn the processes required for the operation of the electronic procurement and ordering
systems.
