About the Role
The Chief Internal Auditor plays a crucial role coordinating an effective internal audit program, providing specialist advice and support to senior executive and Audit, Risk & Improvement Committee to ensure Council's strategic risks are mitigated. These responsibilities include:
- Supervise internal audit staff in line with Council policies and statutory requirements.
- Develop, review, and implement the Strategic Internal Audit Plan aligned with global standards and NSW local government guidelines.
- Define audit scopes, objectives, timelines, and milestones for audit projects.
- Ensure quality assurance in audit reporting and facilitate implementation of audit recommendations.
- Present audit findings to the Executive Leadership Team and Audit, Risk & Improvement Committee (ARIC).
- Prepare ARIC business papers and progress reports on audit plan implementation.

About You
We are looking for a professional with extensive experience managing internal audit functions within complex, multidisciplinary environments. To be considered for this position you are required to have:
- Tertiary qualifications in business, accounting, commerce, economics or a relevant business-related discipline
- CIA, Graduate Certificate in Internal Auditing, CPA or CA qualified
Membership to Institute of Internal Auditors
Current Class C Driver's Licence
- Proof of right to work in Australia
With a track record of successfully developing and implementing strategic project plans, you will use research, analysis and Enterprise Risk Management principles to support informed decision-making, drive meaningful organisational change and enhance operational outcomes. You will also possess a proven ability to influence and motivate staff across all levels, promoting innovation and fostering collaboration to achieve shared goals and work toward continuous improvement.
