About The Role

• Work with a team of Estimator(s), Engineer(s) and Project Manager(s) in the preparation and submission of tender proposals, through to handover to the project delivery team
• Responsible for the management and on-time submission of tender proposals
• Analyse drawings, models and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labour estimates and bills of quantities (BOQ)
• Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates
• Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors, send out tender enquiries and assess quotes
• Review material and labour requirements, to decide whether it is more cost-effective to produce or purchase components
• Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors
• Establish and maintain the tendering process and conduct negotiations
• Coordination and management of the entire shop drawing process including design workshops, value engineering, identifying long lead items and controlling the RFI workflow process
• Support the Contract Administrator in the preparation and submission of monthly claims

About You

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Civil preferred), Construction Management, Quantity Surveying or equivalent
• Must have 5+ years' experience as an Estimator in Australia, delivering structural steel projects (building, industrial or social infrastructure) with a contractor.
• Experience working for Tier 1 and/or Tier 2 builders is desired. Candidates with solely residential steel experience will not be suitable.
• Demonstrated ability to analyse, evaluate and interpret a range of complex and technical documents, including relevant regulatory, legislative, and licensing requirements, codes and standards, plans, drawings and specifications, invitations to tender, contracts and procurement reports, and bills of quantities
• Cost planning experience is valued
• Have a strong understanding of the local market including upcoming projects in the industry.
• Highly competent with MS Office, hold a Driver's licence and a Construction Industry Induction (White Card)
• A basic understanding of BIM Software (Tekla, Auto CAD) and project scheduling software (MS Project)
• Excellent time management skills to work on multiple projects and ability to work under pressure
• Can work independently, is highly organised and be able to work in different locations to service projects e.g., site office, head office or remotely
• Ability to identify and solve problems, work in a methodical way and strong attention to detail
• You have a can-do and positive attitude, willingness to learn, team player, and able to get things done.
• For the right candidate, we may consider an Estimating Manager role to bid on projects and lead the estimating team.
