Job Description
Your opportunity
We're looking for a highly motivated Senior Media & Communications Advisor who will undertake effective media communications for traditional, new and social media. They will identify and develop proactive media announcements, stories and posts and create the supporting media materials to ensure excellent traction across all channels. They will also develop appropriate and accurate responses to media issues and enquiries often to tight deadlines, while actively liaising with media to enhance the reputation of Port Authority of New South Wales.

This is a permanent full-time role based in Barangaroo, reporting into the Senior Manager, Corporate Affairs

Here's How Your Impact Will Truly Count

  • Identify good news media stories and research and prepare media packages including releases, backgrounders, video, images and infographics, social media posts, articles, communications plans and other supporting materials.
  • Develop media response to issues, incidents and critical events, and for social media moderation, by actively engaging with the business to research and develop timely, accurate and appropriate responses.
  • Develop media and social media content by working closely with internal stakeholders and subject matter experts to ensure accuracy, appropriateness and supports the agency's brand and objectives.
  • Identify public relations and media opportunities and issues as they emerge, and act as a source of communication advice for the Senior Manager Corporate Affairs, executives and business, partnering with them regarding issues and media management, and providing media liaison support for public engagements, projects and events.
  • Monitor and evaluate media and social media to gauge success, identify improvements and provide and contribute to strategic communication advice.

Desired Skills And Experience
What you will bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Media/Communications or Journalism or relevant demonstrated knowledge and experience in communication management, including contentious issues, communication planning and media.
  • Experience in developing and implementing proactive communication strategies, responding to complex media enquiries and handling multiple issues and tasks daily.
  • Knowledge and experience in working with a range of media, particularly key print and electronic media.
  • Demonstrable experience in the development of digital news content and a sound knowledge and experience in utilising, and creating content for social media channels.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills for a range of internal and external audiences.
  • Willingness to undertake occasional after-hours and weekend work and rostered on-call media duties.
  • Willingness to undertake other communications tasks and responsibilities as required.
