Government Relations Advisor

Provide timely, high-quality support to the Minister, Minister's office, and wider government through clear documentation, research, and advice that strengthen the organisation.

Role Overview

The Government Relations Advisor will author Ministerial briefs and correspondence, identify gaps and opportunities for improvement in documents, build and sustain effective relationships within the business, the Minister's Office, and other stakeholders, and operate at pace while managing competing priorities with precision and integrity. Success in the role comes from balancing strategic thinking with practical delivery.

About the Person

The successful candidate will have strong political acumen and the ability to manage relationships and influence decisions in complex environment. They are an adaptable, collaborative communicator who delivers high-quality outcomes with professionalism and integrity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage stakeholder relationships and provide strategic advice
  • Prepare accurate and timely briefings, correspondence, and reports
  • Support governance processes and drive improvements in policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with legislative, regulatory, and organisational requirements

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in police, communications, or similar area and/or extensive experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong working knowledge of the processes of Government, Cabinet, and the Parliament
