As the energy sector evolves, we're growing our workforce to drive innovation and transformation.

The Opportunity | Based in Sydney (Eastern Creek) or Newcastle

We're growing our team and looking for a talented Operations Planning Engineer to help us meet the demands of a transforming energy future.

In this role, you'll be at the centre of our network's safe operation, facilitating access to high voltage assets, planning and coordinating outages, and ensuring minimal impact to customers and the market. You'll work with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to manage system impacts, balance operational priorities, and enable timely project delivery. With increasing levels of renewable integration and a tighter operating margin across the network, your expertise and judgement will be relied upon every day to help keep the grid secure and efficient.

Based in Sydney (Eastern Creek) or Newcastle, this role offers a unique opportunity to influence the future of electricity transmission in Australia. You'll be part of a collaborative, high-performing team that values your input, supports your development, and is driven by a strong purpose, to power a better future.

A Day in the Life at Transgrid

Working as an Operations Planning Engineer means every day brings new challenges, critical thinking, and system-wide impact. You'll engage across teams and collaborate closely with stakeholders to ensure network access and project delivery are safe, coordinated, and customer focused.

Your day might include:

  • Reviewing and assessing complex outage plans to identify network risks and operational impacts.
  • Coordinating with project and maintenance teams to ensure outages are sequenced and scheduled efficiently.
  • Preparing and issuing customer communications for planned outages.
  • Performing power system studies and contingency analysis to support operational decisions.
  • Providing technical support and real-time advice during system events or emergencies.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of operating protocols, manuals, and tools.

About You

You're a technically strong, collaborative professional with a solid foundation in power systems and an analytical mindset. You thrive in complex environments, value stakeholder relationships, and are driven by service and safety. You're confident making decisions under pressure, and you bring clarity to complex scenarios.

You'll bring:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, with sound knowledge of high voltage systems, protection, and power system analysis.
  • Experience in outage planning, transmission operations, or system control.
  • Strong understanding of network access procedures and Safe Systems of Work.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate.
  • Familiarity with the National Electricity Market and regulatory considerations.
  • Experience with operating tools, HV system diagrams and contingency planning.
