About Us
Court Services Victoria (CSV) provides corporate and facility services to support the operations of Victoria's courts and tribunals, including the Supreme Court, the County Court, the Magistrates' Court, the Children's Court, and the Coroners Court, as well as the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal and the Judicial College of Victoria.
The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV), part of the Court Services Victoria statutory authority, plays a vital role in delivering justice across metropolitan and regional areas. Handling over 300,000 cases annually at 51 venues, MCV accounts for around 90% of all cases heard in Victorian courts. The Court is committed to being innovative, accessible, and responsive, providing high-quality services to the Victorian community.
About the Role
The Lawyer supports the effective functioning and ongoing development of the Magistrates' Court by providing legal advice, conducting research, contributing to law reform, and assisting with legal projects and litigation matters.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct legal research and analysis
Provide legal advice to magistrates, judicial registrars, and executives.
Draft legal documents such as briefs, memoranda, and case summaries.
Represent MCV in external forums and law reform committees.
Support senior lawyers on various legal tasks and projects.
Assist with judgment publication and legal training initiatives.
Manage appeals, judicial reviews, and litigation involving the Court.
Respond to inquiries from statutory agencies.
Perform other duties aligned with the role's classification.

About You
Tertiary qualifications in Law, with eligibility of an Australian Legal Practising Certificate
Strong legal research, analytical, and communication skills
Skilled in delivering clear, well-reasoned legal advice on complex matters
Experience in Magistrates' Court jurisdictions is desirable
- Knowledge of Magistrates' Court procedures and practices is an advantage
