About Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services

Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services Ltd (KAMS) is the peak regional Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service (ACCHS) in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Established in 1986, KAMS provides a unified voice for Aboriginal health and wellbeing, along with centralised resources and collective advocacy in partnership with its Member Services. Governed by a Board of Directors comprised of Aboriginal health leaders, KAMS is committed to empowering Aboriginal communities through culturally appropriate health services.

Our vision is that all Kimberley Aboriginal people are empowered to be strong, healthy, and connected through Aboriginal community-controlled services. We strive to deliver holistic health and wellbeing outcomes in partnership with Aboriginal-led organisations, centering our services around Aboriginal culture and knowledge.

Position Overview

The Infection Prevention and Control Coordinator will play a crucial role in promoting health and safety within KAMS and Kimberley Renal Services (KRS). This position requires a proactive approach to the prevention, surveillance, investigation, and control of infections. The Coordinator will engage with internal and external stakeholders to develop, implement, and evaluate infection control policies and practises.

Key responsibilities include conducting infection control audits, providing specialist advice, and leading educational initiatives for staff. The role also involves collaboration with various health services and the coordination of vaccination programs, ensuring compliance with the latest health guidelines.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will possess a strong background in health, particularly in infection prevention and control. We are looking for individuals who demonstrate exceptional communication skills and a commitment to community health.

  • Health qualifications and/or relevant experience in infection prevention and control.
  • Proven ability to plan, implement, and evaluate health programs.
  • Experience in developing and delivering educational programs.
  • Strong organisational and decision-making skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.
  • Understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and health issues.
  • Current WA 'C' class driver's licence and willingness to travel.
  • Current National Police Clearance or willingness to obtain one.

Desirable attributes include experience within an Aboriginal Controlled Health Organisation and knowledge of cultural safety principles.

Salary & Benefits

While you will face diverse new challenges in the role, you will also enjoy an attractive base salary of $139,161 per annum pro rata and a further host of benefits, including:

  • Accommodation Allowance of $13,000 per annum pro rata;
  • 5 weeks annual leave (per annum pro-rata);
  • Phone allowance of $100 per month;
  • Annual Airfares to the value of $1,285 pa (after 12 months of employment)
