Primary objective

Provide advanced Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care services in a culturally responsive and effective manner;

through prevention, early detection, early intervention; and treatment of illness within a scope of practice.

Context statement

This role sits within the Alice Springs Public Health Unit Centre for Disease Control and requires clinical knowledge and skills regarding

best practice prevention and management of Sexually Transmissible Infections and Blood Borne Viruses. The position will also provide

support to the public health response to notifiable diseases in the Alice Springs region, including outbreak response, and will be required to

develop networks and relationships and to liaise with other organisations.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Provide culturally responsive primary health care practice in collaboration with other healthcare professionals including developing

and coordinating healthcare plans for individuals; supporting them in complying with their care plan as required and within a defined

scope of practice.

  1. Participate in planning, delivery and evaluation of health education and health promotion programs, including engaging with local

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members to strengthen community involvement in health service delivery.

  1. Participate in the organisation's Continuous Quality Improvement process for the provision of safe, effective and efficient health care.
  2. Provide clinical supervision, mentoring, and support to trainee and new graduate Aboriginal Health Practitioners to develop their skills,

knowledge and professional capabilities.

  1. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in

order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

6. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary practice and role modelling behaviour.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Current registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as an Aboriginal and /or Torres Strait Islander

Health Practitioner with no conditions.

2. Minimum Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Level 6, as per NTPS Aboriginal Health Practitioner Enterprise

Agreement.

3. Proven experience providing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care practice to individuals and families as an

advanced and proficient practitioner; including maintaining and developing health service standards.

4. Demonstrated experience in providing effective communication ensuring clients are accessing and providing informed consent to

health care services; and with the ability to maintain confidentiality.

  1. Proven effective communication skills, including negotiation and conflict management skills working with Aboriginal people to build

relationships around cultural protocols in relation to male health, child health and men's business.

  1. Hold a current Ochre Card, criminal history check, confirmation of Aboriginality, and a current Driver's Licence.

period of two years, subject to engaging and participating in a learning agreement to obtain the required qualification. Note a criminal
