Chas Kelly Transport (Kelly Group) is a cornerstone of Tasmanian & Australian logistics. We're seeking a dedicated, highly experienced Diesel Mechanic to join our maintenance team. This full-time role is based across our key facilities in Burnie and Devonport, where you will ensure the continuous operational excellence of our diverse, heavy-vehicle fleet.

You will be the specialist responsible for the diagnostic, repair, and preventative maintenance that ensures safety, reliability, and that every scheduled delivery meets its mark.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Workshop Supervisor, your primary focus will be on the operational readiness of our fleet, including prime movers, heavy rigid trucks, and an extensive range of specialized trailers and transport equipment.

Key responsibilities of this critical dual-workshop role include:

  • Fleet Health Management: Performing routine servicing, complex diagnostics, major overhauls, and general repairs on a diverse range of modern heavy vehicles.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensuring all maintenance activities strictly comply with stringent vehicle safety standards, Mass management and local permit requirements
  • Workshop Stewardship: Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe working environment at both the Burnie and Devonport sites.

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for a self-motivated professional ready for a significant role. To be considered for this position, you will possess the following:

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Trade Certification: A recognized qualification as a Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Vehicle Mechanic, or equivalent.
  • Proven Experience: Demonstrated post-apprenticeship experience in heavy road transport maintenance.
  • Safety Focus: A rigorous commitment to WHS procedures and best-practice workshop standards.
  • Licensing: Current driver's license is required.
  • Autonomy: Proven ability to work autonomously and collaboratively as part of a team across multiple workshop locations and offsite when required.

Highly Desirable Attributes:

  • Licensing: Current HR (Heavy Rigid) or HC (Heavy Combination) driver's license.
  • Additional Skills: Proven welding/fabrication experience.
  • Previous experience with Volvo, Mercedes Benz, Isuzu, Mitsubishi, CAT equipment.
