Senior Government Relations Officer

Located in the heart of Southeast Queensland, City of Moreton Bay is one of the fastest growing and most ambitious local governments in Australia, with a focus on shaping the future through investment in major infrastructure, city-shaping projects and facilitating opportunities that leverage the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The City of Moreton Bay is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Government Relations Officer to join our Advocacy team, supporting the delivery of Council's ambitious advocacy agenda.
In this role, you will play a vital part in advancing the city's priorities by strengthening relationships with all levels of government, providing timely and accurate advice, and supporting the development of strategies that secure positive outcomes for the City of Moreton Bay. Reporting to the Lead - Government Relations, you will assist in positioning Council as a trusted partner to government, while ensuring policy and funding decisions deliver tangible benefits to our city and community.
Your work will be varied and rewarding. On any given day, you may be drafting high-quality briefing papers and submissions, coordinating input across multiple departments to shape advocacy positions, or liaising directly with advisors including from Ministerial or electoral offices to progress Council's initiatives. You will be the link between the technical expertise across Council and the decision-makers who influence outcomes for the city. This means you will need to be comfortable working across diverse policy areas and projects, bringing clarity to complex information, and presenting it in a way that is compelling and accessible.
The role demands strong communication and writing skills, as you will be responsible for preparing briefings, summaries, submissions and, at times, grant applications to secure funding for Council priorities. You will also support the Advocacy team in navigating complex and politically sensitive matters, ensuring the organisation is well-prepared to engage on reputational issues, high-profile projects, or emerging challenges. A demonstrated ability to balance competing priorities, particularly during high-pressure periods such as elections or a natural disaster response, will be key to your success.
We are seeking candidates with experience in government relations, public policy, media or corporate communications, or advocacy roles, ideally gained in government organisations, peak bodies, or aligned sectors such as infrastructure and housing. You will bring an understanding of political and parliamentary processes through exposure to political environments, together with the judgement to operate effectively in a bi-partisan environment.
As a Senior Government Relations Officer, you will be part of a highly collaborative team that values integrity, professionalism, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. You will be expected to work closely with colleagues across Council, engaging with subject matter experts, managers, and executives to gather the information needed to support advocacy efforts. Your ability to coordinate projects, build trusted relationships, and apply sound judgement in politically sensitive contexts will be highly valued.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the future of one of Australia's most dynamic cities, working on priorities including infrastructure and growth to liveability and community wellbeing. If you are a skilled communicator with political awareness, strong writing project coordination abilities, and the motivation to make a meaningful impact, we encourage you to apply.
