HumanAbility is a Jobs and Skills Council for the health, human services, aged care and disability, sport & recreation and early childhood industries.
HumanAbility's objective is to advance education by supporting skills and workforce development for the above specified industries. It is a values-based organisation, that is not-for-profit, industry-owned and led, that is contracted by the federal government.
HumanAbility will achieve its objectives through:
- Implementation of the Jobs & Skills Councils – Strengthening Australia's National Vocational Education and Training System program, or its replacement program, and similar programs supported by governments and/or industry;
- Workforce planning activities that develop strategies to address workforce challenges, using high-quality data and evidence on current and emerging skills needs (in collaboration with Jobs and Skills Australia) associated with a range of educational pathways, including vocational education and training (VET) and higher education;
- Formal and informal training product development, including resources aligned with standards set by Skills Ministers to improve the quality, speed-to-market and responsiveness of nationally recognised training products;
- Contributions to the implementation, promotion and monitoring of VET; and
- Industry stewardship to advance education by acting as a source of intelligence on issues affecting relevant industries and national training system opportunities.
We have an opportunity for a Manager Technology & Cyber Security to join us on a part-time basis in an ongoing capacity subject to funding (currently funded until mid The role may be located anywhere in Australia and will involve some travel with overnight stays for organisation meetings and other events.
About the position
The Manager Technology and Cyber Security role supports the Executive Director Finance & Operations in leading the implementation of HumanAbility's technology and cybersecurity strategy and development of operational efficiencies, frameworks, policies and guidelines.
This role will manage the organisation's Managed Service Provider (MSP), conduct risk assessments, ensuring compliance, contractual and regulatory obligations are met and will oversee incident responses to protect systems and data from threats.
This role is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the key recommendations from the IT review and strategic plan, development, and management of technology services and cybersecurity initiatives. This role ensures the organisation's digital infrastructure is secure, efficient, and aligned with HumanAbility's operational and financial objectives, while safeguarding sensitive data and systems against evolving technologies and cyber threats.
This role bridges technical security expertise with strategic business goals, ensuring the organisation's IT infrastructure remains secure and resilient.
This role requires adaptability to work in a hybrid working environment with staff spread across various States. The Manager Technology and Cyber Security will work closely with cross-functional teams to drive innovation and resilience across the organisation.

Key Accountabilities
- Technology Management: Oversee the delivery of the IT review recommendations, IT strategy and maintenance of IT systems, ensuring high availability, performance, and scalability. Manage the HumanAbility MSP ensuring contractual and reporting obligations are met, fostering a culture of accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Cybersecurity Oversight: Manage the development, implementation and monitoring of cyber security strategy, framework (E8), policies, procedures, and controls. Proactively assessing the current security risk for potential weaknesses and gaps to protect digital assets and ensure cyber safety and compliance with relevant contracts and regulations.
- Ensure security technologies (e.g., firewalls, intrusion detection systems, end point protection solutions) are properly deployed, configured, and maintained.
- Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate technology and cybersecurity risks, ensuring robust incident response and recovery plans are in place.
- Strategic Advice: Contribute to the development of the IT Strategy and build a strategic IT Roadmap. Implement technology and cybersecurity strategies that align with organisational goals and industry best practices.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure technology and security solutions meet HumanAbility's needs and grant agreements.
- Be the primary IT contact for HumanAbility and provide ad hoc IT support to staff as required.
- Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership to optimise the performance of the technology infrastructure. Lead cyber security operations and manage incident response for any cyber security incidents.
- Budgeting and Resource Allocation: Develop and manage budgets for technology and cybersecurity initiatives, ensuring optimal use of resources.
- Compliance and Reporting: Ensure adherence to contractual, legal, regulatory, and organisational standards, providing regular reports to Executive Director Finance & Operations on technology and cybersecurity performance. Ensure operational procedures and documentation are current and effective, track and addresses operational issues.
- Other: Observe and follow work health, safety and wellbeing policies and guidelines.
Qualifications and Experience
• Bachelor degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
• Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or equivalent is highly desirable.
• Expertise in cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST).
• Proven track record of successfully managing technology projects and cybersecurity programs.
• Demonstrated experience providing IT and cyber security advice to senior leadership teams.
• Strong technical leadership and decision-making abilities.
• Proficiency in IT infrastructure, cloud technologies, and emerging trends.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Analytical mindset with a focus on problem-solving and risk mitigation.
• Experience working within a multi-functional organisation.
Further Information
This is a part-time ongoing position until July 2028 to reflect Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) grant funding period.
We work according to a hybrid working environment, and there may be times when it is required to work outside normal business hours i.e. evenings and weekends to meet operational and/or stakeholder requirements, and dependant on work deliverables, the role may be required to undertake travel.
