Located just 15km from the heart of Townsville, Sun Metals operates one of the world's most advanced zinc refineries. We produce high-quality Special High Grade Zinc and Zinc Alloy, along with valuable by-products including Sulfuric Acid, Copper, Cadmium, and Zinc Ferrite. Our operations span the full refining process—Roasting, Leaching, Purification, Electrolysis, and Casting—with products supplied to both domestic and international markets.

Join Our Team as a Sun Metals Refinery Operator

As a valued member of the Sun Metals team, you'll play a key role in the safe, efficient operation and maintenance of plant equipment to ensure smooth, reliable production. Working in a supportive team environment, you'll be part of a continuous shift roster (2 days, 2 nights, 4 days off), giving you a balanced work-life rhythm while contributing to a high-performing refinery operation.

What We're Looking For      

We're seeking motivated individuals who are ready to thrive in a dynamic refinery environment. To succeed in this role, you'll bring:

• Strong multitasking abilities and the capability to manage priorities in a fast-paced setting
• A team-focused mindset with a commitment to achieving production goals while maintaining high safety and environmental standards
• The confidence and initiative to work independently when required
• A willingness to learn, adapt, and grow with new challenges and technologies
• A proactive attitude with a strong sense of responsibility and pride in your performance
• Clear and effective communication skills—both verbal and written
• Basic computer skills and a readiness to use digital tools in daily operations
• The physical fitness to safely perform manual tasks, including working in hot or dusty environments, climbing ladders, walking on uneven surfaces, and entering confined spaces
• The flexibility to work a continuous shift roster (2 days, 2 nights, 4 days off)
• A reliable, punctual approach to work and strong personal accountability

What Will Set You Apart

While not essential, the following qualifications and experience will be highly regarded:

• Previous experience in refining, mining, or other heavy industry environments
• Hands-on experience operating and maintaining fixed plant equipment such as pumps, valves, and conveyors
• Familiarity with autoclave operations and related processing systems
• Possession of High Risk Work Licences, including Forklift (LF), Cabin Gantry Crane (CB), Elevated Work Platform (WP), or Remote Gantry Crane (LBG)
• A high school certificate is preferred; trade qualifications will be considered an advantage
