About the Role
Sun Metals is seeking a motivated and experienced Plant Inspector to join our Mechanical Maintenance team. This role is responsible for ensuring our plant and statutory equipment operate at peak performance and comply with all regulatory and company requirements.
You will develop and execute maintenance plans, conduct statutory inspections, analyse equipment performance data, and drive continuous improvement in maintenance efficiency and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with Asset Integrity procedures and statutory requirements for, pressure vessels, storage tanks, piping, and pressure relief devices (PRDs).
- Develop, plan, and schedule preventive and planned maintenance activities, including detailed task lists, resource allocation, safety requirements, and costings.
- Maintain and update the CMMS (JD Edwards preferred) with accurate maintenance schedules and asset history records.
- Conduct in-service inspections and replacements for PRDs, pressure piping, vessels, and tanks in accordance with Australian & international standards.
- Analyse equipment performance and failure data to identify root causes, improve reliability, and inform replacement strategies.
- Monitor and report on maintenance KPIs, prepare trend analyses, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Participate in shutdown planning, annual budget estimates, and coordination of contract services.
- Promote and uphold all Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) standards and ensure compliance with WHS and environmental legislation.
Skills And Experiences
About You
Qualifications:
- Trade qualification or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Certified as either AICIP In-Service Inspector, API 510 Pressure Vessel Inspector, or API 653 Tank Inspector.(or willing to obtain certification)
Experience:
- Proven maintenance planning and inspection experience within a mineral processing plant (zinc refinery experience highly regarded).
- Experience with API & NDT inspections.
- Proficiency with CMMS (JD Edwards preferred).
- Demonstrated background in maintenance planning, supervision, and small project management.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of preventive maintenance, condition monitoring, and Australian Standards for pressure vessels, piping and storage tanks.
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and P&IDs.
- High computer literacy (Word, Excel, MS Project).
- Excellent report writing, analytical, and organisational skills.
- Team-oriented mindset with the ability to coordinate multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Proactive approach to identifying issues and implementing effective solutions.
