Position Overview
The purpose of this position is to maximise the value of Emmanuel College's Drama Program through the development of a challenging and engaging drama curriculum and theatre experiences. In addition, to develop a culture within the school whereby the College Community views Performing Arts as a K-12 program where staff are committed to the development of the whole child through the inclusion of the Arts in their education.
Accountability & Reporting Lines
This position reports directly to the Director of Performing Arts and ultimately to the Principal.
The Co-curricular Coordinator Drama will also work closely with the Performing Arts Administrator for matters relating to student timetables, hours of work, and tutoring administration.
Occupational Requirements & Qualifications
The Cocurricular Drama Coordinator must have:
- Appropriate industry qualifications (such as a Drama or Theatre degree or ATCL / LTCL Diploma of Teaching;
- Current blue card;
- Current QLD Drivers Licence
- Ideally, the successful candidate would be a registered Teacher in Queensland. However, extensive teaching experience would be accepted.

The Cocurricular Drama Coordinator must:

Skills & Competencies
The Cocurricular Drama Coordinator must:
- Have a high level of drama / theatrical ability, knowledge of drama / theatre theory / history and practical experience in relevant drama tutoring, preferably with Trinity College London syllabi
- Have a high level of directing / production experience working with large groups of students in preparation for public performances and competition
- Have a high level of effective communication skills, along with collaborative and team-work skills.
- Have an understanding of the philosophy of Christian Education and ability to translate it into practice in the classroom, playground, office and staffroom
- Use a variety of teaching strategies and resources and be able to teach students across both Junior and Senior Schools
- Ability to plan (and regularly evaluate) an interesting, sequential, developmental and enjoyable program tailored to individual student requirements
- Capacity to liaise effectively with the Arts Academy staff regarding the College's drama performance needs
- Be physically able to collect and escort students from their classroom to tutoring studios
- Build and maintain good relationships with students, staff and parents
- Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Have the ability to effectively evaluate programming, student progress and personal performance
- Consistently be available to meet timetabled hours of work
- Be competent in the use of: Microsoft Office 365, the College's learning management system
- Exhibit diligence and commitment to all aspects of employment including areas such as professional presentation and behaviour
- Become familiar with and meet expectations of all College policies published on the College Intranet.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Drama Tutoring
- Know, plan, program and teach at the appropriate standards for each student; this may include examination preparation through TCL syllabi or similar
- Seek opportunities, prepare and support students who wish to extend themselves in areas of competition, scholarship and / or audition
- Know and provide differentiated teaching and learning to cater for the diverse nature of all students
- Maintain a high standard of behavioural management and productivity in lessons
- Cultivate a respectful and inclusive learning environment
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance at lessons
- Report formally in writing annually regarding the progress of students
- Conduct all scheduled lessons within allocated timetable, ensuring start and finish time of lessons is appropriate and reasonable
- Collect and escort students from classrooms to tutoring studios (as needed)
- Conduct a tutor concert annually for student performance
- Involve parents in the program, where appropriate.
Cocurricular Coordinator - Drama
- Implement the school's Christian philosophy in the Drama rehearsal sessions and in other aspects of school life in a natural, spontaneous way that will foster faith
- With the assistance of the Arts Academy team, event manage internal Drama opportunities, including improvisation festivals, script-writing competitions, Arts trips / tours and various Drama showcases
- Rehearse, prepare and direct large groups of students for public Drama performances at various Arts Academy events and for competition
- Accompany and support students at public Drama performances at various Arts Academy events and for competition, some of which may be outside of school hours
- Know and provide differentiated teaching and learning to cater for the diverse nature of all students
- Maintain a high standard of behaviour and work in Drama rehearsal sessions
- Cultivate a respectful and inclusive learning environment
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance at Drama rehearsal sessions
- Conduct all scheduled Drama rehearsal sessions within allocated timetable, ensuring start and finish time of rehearsals is appropriate and reasonable
- Involve parents in the program, where appropriate.
Development – Professional and Other
- Demonstrate a willingness to contribute to the spiritual growth and fellowship of the Emmanuel community
- Comply with all College policies and QCT/AITSL Professional Standards
- Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing personal growth and professional development, including in information technology, by diligently undertaking courses and learning opportunities provided or required by the College, as well as through personal initiative.
Co-Curricular Involvement
- Actively contribute to the school's co-curricular program, including participation in out-of-school hours coaching of sport teams
- Participate in activities, camps, excursions and events that contribute to the student experience
- Attend in-service courses and out of hours school functions as required by the College.
Other Responsibilities
- Regularly attend Staff Devotions, Worship and Chapel Services, including the Principal's Briefings
- Attend staff meetings, Parent/Teacher Meetings and interviews
- Maintain confidentiality of school matters
- Be aware of and adhere to the requirements of the Child Protection Policy, College Work Health & Safety and other College policies and procedures as found on Schoolbox (the College intranet)
- Perform all other reasonable duties in line with this role as directed from time to time.
Child Protection
The College supports the rights of children and young people and is committed to the safety, welfare and wellbeing of students. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment by:
- Being informed of their responsibilities in relation to child protection including, but not limited to, all Child Protection training and being familiar with the Child Protection Code of Conduct
- Adhering to all legislative requirements and related College Policies
- Always wearing their name badge
- Immediately reporting any suspicions of inappropriate, unlawful or unusual behaviour of students, colleagues or visitors to the College, to abide by the duty of care to protect students and staff from harm, from self or others
- Be diligent and punctual with playground and rostered duties, and other school timelines.
Work Health and Safety
To comply with WHS legislation, all employees are responsible for the safety of themselves, students, visitors, volunteers and colleagues by being proactive in their duty of care. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Carrying out work practices in accordance with current WHS standard
- Complying with and being supportive of all WHS requirements and initiatives as published on Schoolbox
- Following all safety procedures and instructions
- Identifying and reporting any hazards or safety issues to the College WHS Officer or designated representative
- Reporting all accidents and incidents involving students
- Completing and submitting risk assessments as required
- Ensuring that no equipment, materials, appliances or chemicals are brought to the College which do not meet the required safety standards, including being tested and tagged and included in the relevant register
- Ensuring that no third-party workers, contractors or volunteers are engaged without having notified the WHS officer and ensured the completion of all required checks and documentation
- Undertaking all WHS training as required.
