You're someone who wants to create outcomes that have a real impact on the people of NSW.
You're all about the detail and this role will allow you to drive evidence-based decision making to optimise systems and efficiency, not just for the business but for our customers too. It's data and research with impact you can see.
In this role, you'll:
Work as part of a small team delivering data and insights within the Security Crisis and Emergency Management (SCEM) which enables stakeholders to assess and address emergencies by providing required data, insights and visualisation.
This role will see you involved in a cutting-edge project involving a specialised tool which uses sensing and raster data and geospatial machine learning and feature extraction techniques which will be used in rebuilding and rescaling a unique tool created by the team.
You will utilise your strong technical and creative developing skills to build this tool in a constantly changing and demanding environment.
Please note that this is a full-time temporary role until 31 March 2026.
For more information on this position and business unit, view the role description. Please note that the role description is generic so read it in conjunction with the information provided in this Ad which indicates the specific requirements of the role.
About you
Your strong expertise in geospatial applications and ETL tools including ESRI and FME and experience in creating visually appealing and easy to interpret web maps, applications and dashboards formed while working in a corporate/government environment will see you excel in this role and bring the necessary expertise to rebuild this cutting edge tool. You're recognised as a geospatial expert who has high-level analytical skills in geospatial data management, analysis and visualisation, with exposure to remote sensing and raster data and familiar with geospatial machine learning or feature extraction techniques.
Your proficiency in Python scripting for spatial data processing and familiarity with JavaScript frameworks (eg Leaflet Mapbox, ArcGIS API for JS) for developing interactive mapping applications is highly regarded. Your understanding of cloud-based environments and experience contributing to automated spatial data pipelines, in addition to your working knowledge of geospatial web services and their integration into enterprise systems will equip you well for this exciting project. Ideally you will have an awareness of data governance principles, including metadata compliance, data quality validation, versioning and licensing of open spatial data.
