ABOUT THE ALANNAH & MADELINE FOUNDATION

The Alannah & Madeline Foundation is a national not-for-profit organisation dedicated to keeping children and young people free from violence and trauma wherever they live, learn and play. Through our Care, Prevention and Advocacy programs, we fight for their right to be safe, so their future is strong.

ABOUT TRACS - Empowering Educators. Supporting Children.

The Trauma Consultancy Service (TraCS) helps early childhood educators support vulnerable and traumatised children aged 3–5 by embedding trauma-informed practices into everyday learning.

Funded through School Readiness Funding, TraCS Practitioners work directly with educators—offering in-the-moment coaching during sessions with children and reflective support, training, and guidance.

ABOUT THE PRACTITIONER ROLE

  • Deliver in person trauma-informed support to early childhood educators in the Western region of Melbourne, reflective practice, and professional guidance to help build safe, supportive learning environments for children affected by trauma.

  • Conduct trauma-informed assessments in kindergartens and early childhood education settings, developing and reviewing tailored service plans in collaboration with educators and stakeholders.

  • Provide recommendations on strategies to strengthen children's emotional and social regulation, pro-social skills, and school readiness, while supporting educators in applying trauma-informed approaches.

  • Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships, working independently to ensure high-quality service delivery aligned with program goals, timelines, and budget.

  • Support referrals, guiding educators and services in connecting vulnerable children and families with appropriate community, health, and education supports.

  • Collaborate across sectors, fostering partnerships with schools, allied health, family services, local government, and state departments to enhance support for children and families.

ABOUT YOU

  • Relevant qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field, with eligibility for membership of a professional body (e.g. AASW, APS), and at least five years' experience supporting children and families impacted by trauma, violence, or abuse.

  • Expert knowledge of trauma-informed practice, including best-practice models and theories relating to child development, family support, and the effects of trauma.

  • Demonstrated ability to translate trauma-informed frameworks into practical strategies when working with educators, children, and families, including reflective practice and capacity building.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to collaborate across disciplines, foster partnerships, and promote services effectively.

  • Highly organised and self-directed, with the capacity to work independently offsite while maintaining strong connections with internal teams.

  • Willingness to travel, including providing outreach support to early childhood services, and a current driver's licence with access to a vehicle (travel expenses reimbursed).
