AEMO at the Heart of Energy
AEMO is Australia's independent energy system and market operator and system planner. AEMO's purpose is to ensure safe, reliable and affordable energy today, and enable the energy transition for the benefit of all Australians. Australian governments are now committed to a net zero economy for Australia by 2050 and our vision is to enable this. We have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to co-design the future of our energy systems, and our core values revolve around character, commitment, and connection. Join us as we contribute to this significant transition in the energy sector.
About the role
We have exciting opportunities for analysts with a passion for energy to join our dynamic and critical teams in Settlements and Prudentials. You will contribute to the successful, prudent financial management and ongoing development of the National Electricity Market (NEM) and east-coast gas markets. Roles are available at Analyst and Senior Analyst level depending on experience.
You will get a broad exposure to how our markets work and a deep understanding of their intricacies and complexities. You will have the opportunity to grow, excel and develop rapidly in a friendly, diverse and dynamic team who are driven to succeed.
If you have an interest in the energy sector, are keen to learn more about Australia's energy markets and enjoy working with stakeholders across the industry, this is the role for you.
What you will be doing
- Responsible for core operational settlement and prudential activities across the energy markets operated by AEMO, ensuring ongoing compliance with rules and procedures and maintaining business process documentation.
- Undertake complex quantitative and qualitative analysis of financial and market data to inform decision making and improve transparency.
- Identify, manage and resolve issues that impact efficient and effective operations.
- Contribute subject matter expertise to market design activities and IT projects that evolve the market.
- Facilitating new IT functionality by assisting in the preparation of business requirements and implementation into production systems.
- At more senior levels, you will lead strategic market enhancement, market analysis or process improvement projects. Using your leadership skills, you will mentor and coach team members to drive operational excellence and assist in the day to day management of the team. You will work under minimal supervision to solve complex operational issues and drive change.
What you will bring to the role
- Passion for energy with an understanding of the energy sector. Senior Analysts should have a detailed understanding of the changes the energy sector and how these affect AEMO.

- High attention to detail, coupled with an ability to meet deadlines and prioritise multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
In return some of our benefits to you
- Flexible working: work from home, part time, job share, hybrid options, and additional leave options
- Professional development via projects, industry networks, job rotation, study assistance and more.
