Due to our continually expanding client base, we are currently seeking several casual Disability Support Workers to join our dynamic team.

The ideal candidates will have a strong background in disability care, excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, and a genuine passion for supporting people with disabilities.

Our Disability Support Workers have a critical role in providing a range of high-quality, safe, and effective supports that assist NDIS participants in enhancing their quality of life and maximise their ability and opportunity to exercise choice and control.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate/s will be required to:

  1. provide individual support and empowerment to our clients to help them achieve their goals through skill development and meaningful engagement in activities of their choice.
  2. use a strengths-based, person-centred approach when working with our clients to promote independence and maximise choice and control.
  3. support the health and well-being of our clients by attending medical appointments, administering medication/s, and undertaking other health care interventions.
  4. assist clients in developing daily living skills by facilitating their participation in budgeting, shopping, meal planning and preparation, cooking, and management of their residence.
  5. assist clients with household duties including (but not limited to):

  6. cleaning; and

  7. laundry activities (e.g. washing, drying, and ironing).
  8. assist clients with their physical and mobility requirements.
  9. provide clients with direct personal care support and assistance in a safe and sensitive manner.  Personal care support and assistance may include (but is not limited to):

  10. communication;

  11. showering and or bathing;
  12. dressing and or grooming;
  13. continence;
  14. toileting;
  15. oral hygiene;
  16. feeding or assisting clients to eat their meals;
  17. assisting clients to drink;
  18. behaviour support;
  19. medication management; and
  20. transport.
  21. facilitate community inclusion and participation and support clients to establish, build on, and maintain connections, networks, relationships, and interests in alignment with their individual goals.
  22. maintain accurate records and documentation.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Eligible to work in Australia.
  • Current NDIS Workers Screening Check.
  • Current Tasmanian Working with Vulnerable People Card (WWVP) Employee and NDIS classification.
  • Current National Schedule One Police check.
  • Current, full (unrestricted) Tasmanian Driver's License (NOT provisional).
  • Current comprehensive car insurance with commercial or business use.
  • Own roadworthy, registered, and reliable motor vehicle and willingness to use and maintain for work purposes.
  • Computer skills (e.g. ability to email and maintain accurate records and documentation in client management applications).
  • Access to a personal mobile phone and recent model smart phone (IOS or android) or tablet device that has a data plan enabling access to the internet for the purposes of accessing rosters, completing work related documentation and recording time worked.
  • Capacity to uphold or maintain essential qualifications.

Inherent Requirements

The position may require, but is not limited to, the following tasks:

  • manual handling (pushing, pulling, lifting, holding, and carrying);
  • sitting, standing, bending, reaching;
  • computer work, data entry;
  • operating equipment;
  • driving a motor vehicle;
  • shift work (which may include a variety of days, weekends, mornings, afternoons, evenings and or nights, and public holidays); and
  • work at and travel to various locations.

Essential Qualifications

  • Current First Aid Certification and CPR Certificate;
  • Current HLTHPS006 Assist Clients with Medication Certificate;
  • Current HLTWHS005 Conduct Manual Tasks Safely / Manual Handling Certificate; and
  • Certificates of completion of NDIS Commission's eLearning:

  • New Worker NDIS Induction Module;

  • Worker Orientation Module - Quality, Safety and You;
  • Supporting Effective Communication Module; and
  • Supporting Safe and Enjoyable Meals Module.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Certificate III or IV, Diploma or tertiary qualification in Disability, Individual Support, Allied Health, or a related field.

The successful candidate/s will be required to participate in an Australian Federal Police check, NDIS Quality and Safeguards Worker Screening, and a Working with Children Check, prior to confirmation of appointment to the position.

The successful candidate/s will also be required to demonstrate their eligibility to work in Australia, and to disclose any pre-existing injury or disease which may be adversely affected by undertaking the inherent requirements of the position.
