The Team:
This role is based at the Royal Hobart Hospital with a focus on clinical leadership, support and development of staff and oversee best practice standards for social work services in the Sub Acute and Aged Care (SAACS) stream and services across the Hobart region to sub-acute sites such as Repat, Roy Fagan Centre and Virtual Care services located in Cambridge.

As a Clinical Lead Social Worker, you play a pivotal role in shaping clinical excellence and service delivery. You provide strategic direction, mentorship, and support to staff, driving evidence-based practice and continuous improvement. Your leadership ensures Tasmania's health services remain responsive, integrated, and aligned with best practices—especially critical in meeting the needs of older adults and those requiring transitional care.

The Role:
Provide clinical leadership and oversee best practice standards for social work services in the Sub Acute and Aged Care (SAACS ) area of the THS in accordance with the Australian Association of Social Workers Practice Standards and Code of Ethics.

Provide specialist social work assessment, care planning, advice and intervention for clients of Sub Acute & Aged Services including vulnerable and high risk aged clients in both acute and sub-acute settings.

Provide consultancy advice for the management of complex clients of SAACS, THS staff and external stakeholders as required by the Discipline Lead Social Work Services.

Participate as a member of the Social Work team in the provision of strategic direction, development of policies, and in the delivery and evaluation of specialist social work services across the continuum of care for Aged Services patients in the THS.

Assist the Head of Social Work Services with the coordination and management of overall social work services, including recruitment, supervision and support of staff and students, as required.

You will need to:

  • Provide high-level clinical leadership and specialist advice to the SAACS team, including specialist assessments, interventions, referrals and reports.
  • Work as an effective team member in SAACS in the planning, implementation and evaluation of social work services for patients and their families referred to this service.
  • Initiate and develop practice standards, quality improvement activities, supervision, teaching, professional development and research activities that support best practice social work services across the THS.

Details of appointment:
Fixed term, part time, dayworker position working 60.8 hours per fortnight, commencing 15 December 2025 until 15 February 2027.

Salary:
$123,717 to $134,336 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement No. 2 of 2022.

Salary Packaging:
You'll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

Allowances:

  • Please note that access to salaries beyond $130,900 is subject to qualifications and/or application to the personal upgrade scheme

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Professional Development Allowance of up to $1000 per annum

Eligibility:
Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

  • Tertiary qualification/program of study approved by the Australian Association of Social Workers
  • Eligible for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
  • Overseas qualified Social Work candidates require a "certification of eligibility" letter from the AASW to confirm their eligibility for membership to the AASW
  • Or where regulatory requirements exist, NDIS Q&S Commission Provider Registration Requirements
  • Full member of Australian Association of Social Workers
