About The Role
As a
Senior Data Engineer
, you'll design, build, and optimise the data pipelines and platforms that power analytics and decision-making across the organisation. Working across the full data lifecycle, from ingestion and transformation to modelling and storage, you'll ensure systems are reliable, scalable, and high-performing.

You'll collaborate with engineers, architects, and business stakeholders to deliver modern data solutions, champion best practices in data quality and governance, and mentor junior team members. You'll also enable secure, reliable access to trusted data for analysts, data scientists, and business users, driving innovation and operational excellence across the organisation.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, build, and optimisation of scalable ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, and Data Lake, ensuring reliability, security, automation, and performance.
  • Translate complex business requirements into robust, cloud-native solutions, providing technical guidance, reviewing designs, and promoting reusable, standardised patterns.
  • Work with business stakeholders, product owners, and analysts to deliver fit-for-purpose data solutions and act as a trusted advisor on accessing and leveraging data.
  • Implement and enforce governance, lineage, and quality frameworks, partnering with security and compliance teams to meet privacy, risk, and regulatory standards.
  • Evaluate emerging Azure services, identify opportunities to optimise workflows, and lead proof-of-concepts to enhance performance, reduce costs, and uplift data engineering maturity.
  • Oversee the health of pipelines, databases, and environments, support project delivery teams, and provide expert input to ensure smooth adoption of new data services.

Skills & Experience:

  • 5-8 years' experience designing and optimising ETL/ELT pipelines, enterprise data warehouses, and BI platforms; proven ability to translate complex business strategies into scalable, high-performance solutions.
  • Deep proficiency with Microsoft technologies including SQL Server, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake, and Azure Synapse Analytics; strong knowledge of dimensional and relational data modelling (data vault, star schema).
  • Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and logical reasoning skills; demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate with senior stakeholders.
  • Desirable: Experience with Python, Spark, Databricks, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and automated deployment; exposure to multi-cloud or hybrid architectures.
  • Experience leading or mentoring data engineering teams, enforcing coding standards, and supporting Agile/Scrum delivery practices is highly regarded.
  • Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Data Engineering, BI, IT, or related field; relevant Microsoft certifications (e.g., DP-203, DP-900, DP-300, AZ-305) and additional cloud, DevOps, or security certifications are advantageous.
