Are you ready to shape the future of heritage and museum experiences in the vibrant and growing Lake Mac region? As Heritage and Museum Lead, you'll play a pivotal role in delivering on the Museum and Heritage Strategy for our amazing social history facilities: Sugar Valley Library Museum, Swansea Centre, and Rathmines Heritage Centre.

This dynamic role focuses on delivering contemporary exhibitions, museum programming, and local studies services that connect our community with our rich history. You'll lead the way in creating engaging experiences across these facilities, collaborating with passionate volunteers, and fostering partnerships with external organisations and individuals who share our vision.

Your leadership will extend beyond physical spaces, as you develop accessible online content and drive community engagement with our cultural collections. From curating exhibitions and interpreting historical narratives to enabling access to local studies resources, this role offers an incredible opportunity to make history relevant and exciting for diverse audiences.

Conditions of Employment include:

  • May operate across departmental service delivery, Monday through to Sunday; 8.00am to 9.00pm
  • Is located across Council's museums and collection storage spaces and/or Administration Building, with occasional visits to external sites/depots
  • Requires a Working with Children's Check to be completed prior to commencement

You have a strong blend of people skills and technical expertise, enabling you to design and execute compelling exhibitions while maintaining a keen eye for detail. You're as comfortable handling cultural objects and crafting interpretive plans as you are engaging with diverse audiences. With a natural flair for building relationships, you work seamlessly with volunteers, community groups, and stakeholders, creating collaborative networks that enrich your work and strengthen connections to our heritage.

You're proficient in managing community history and heritage collections, including exhibition communication plans, loan agreements, and the technical nuances of object handling. You bring expertise in working with databases, digital platforms, and electronic resources to enhance public access and research capabilities.

Your experience extends across broad contexts, from local to international settings, making you well-equipped to bring fresh perspectives to the role and an opportunity to make it your own.
