Our Regional Delivery team in the Conservation Programs, Heritage and Regulation group is currently seeking to appoint a Coast and Estuary Officer to work with local councils and other stakeholders to manage coastal hazards and improve the health of estuaries and coastal environments.
The Coast and Estuary Officer will assist in coordinating and driving the delivery and implementation of studies and plans to manage coastal risks and ecosystem health.
**About You**
The Coast and Estuaries Officer will assist in providing expert technical input and advice to support Councils and their communities to prepare and implement Coastal Management Programs and associated studies including those on estuary health and coastal hazards.
Your knowledge of coastal zone management policy and practice including relevant legislation and guidelines will enable you to promote and implement the NSW Coastal Management Framework in line with the Coastal Management Act (2016) and the State Environmental Planning Policy (Resilience and Hazards) (2021).
You will review projects submitted for funding under the Coastal and Estuary Management Grants Program for technical soundness and for funding priority. You will support councils to manage grant-funded projects and report on their technical and financial performance. You will provide technical and policy advice to internal and external stakeholders on contentious issues, State Significant Development and planning proposals within the region.
Additionally, you will have a proven track record in collecting estuary and coastal data for analysis, as well as preparing technical recommendations and evaluating management strategies against relevant standards.
Key knowledge and experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of coastal zone (estuary and coastal) processes and natural resource management issues within the coastal zone with experience in data collection, analysis and report writing.
- Demonstrated knowledge of coastal zone management policy and practice including relevant legislation, guidelines and policies.
- Demonstrated knowledge of coastal zone risk &/or estuary health assessment methods and management strategies.
Essential requirements
- Appropriate degree level tertiary qualifications in engineering, environmental science, marine biology, natural resource management or related discipline.
- Current Driver’s License - class C
