As the Specialist, Assistive Technology, you will enhance equitable access to education by identifying, implementing, and promoting assistive technology solutions that support students whose access to learning may be impacted by disability, health or mental health conditions, or neurodivergence. In this role, you will build awareness, capability, and confidence in the use of assistive technologies across the University community.

Reporting to the Senior Coordinator, the Specialist will:

  • Work with students and staff to identify, recommend and implement Assistive Technologies that enable equitable participation in learning.
  • Develop and maintain resources and practical guides to build disability confidence and inclusion capability across the University.
  • Provide expert advice and support on the integration and use of Assistive Technology in learning environments and University systems.
  • Lead or contribute to projects that enhance accessibility, digital inclusion and the student experience.
  • Collaborate with academic and professional staff to promote inclusive teaching and learning practices aligned with universal design principles.
  • Use data and feedback to assess the impact of Assistive Technology initiatives and inform improvements.
  • Foster an inclusive, supportive and collaborative culture across the Student Services division

To be successful, you'll have:

  • A degree with substantial relevant experience, or extensive experience and management expertise in a related technical or administrative field, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and training.
  • Experience working with people with disability and building on strengths, with knowledge of relevant disability standards for education and legislative obligations.
  • Knowledge of Assistive Technology and contemporary equity practices and trends relating to accessibility and inclusion.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to develop and deliver information, resources and training to build the capacity of others.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with team members and key partners to achieve outcomes.
  • Strong project management, problem-solving and decision-making skills, with self-motivation, initiative, sound judgement, tact and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • Ability to respond to changing priorities and contribute to continuous improvement in the workplace.
