Introducing the Nepean Adolescent Mental Health Unit (NAHMU), a fresh, purpose built 10-bed facility dedicated to supporting adolescents aged 12 to 17 who are navigating complex and severe mental health challenges. This state-of-the-art inpatient unit is the newest chapter in the Child, Youth and Family Mental Health (CYFMH) story, expanding its reach to provide compassionate, specialised care from the earliest stages of life through to young adulthood. NAHMU isn't just a place of healing, t's a vital step forward in empowering young people and their families with the support they need, when they need it most.

This is a rare and career-defining opportunity to lead the establishment of a brand-new adolescent mental health facility within NBMLHD. As Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) of the Nepean Adolescent Mental Health Unit (NAMHU), you'll be at the forefront of shaping a service that delivers high-quality, evidence-based care to young people aged 12–17, while supporting their families, carers, and broader networks. Your leadership will drive excellence across every aspect of the unit, from patient care and staff development to performance management, rostering, and clinical governance aligned with NSQHS standards.

NAMHU is seeking a visionary leader with the strength and clarity to guide its foundational phase. You'll work closely with the CYF-MH management team to establish staffing, operational policies, and procedures, and to bring the Model of Care to life. Your role will be pivotal in fostering a culture of safety, collaboration, and recovery, working alongside the Allied Health Clinical Lead, medical staff, and community-based teams to ensure seamless, integrated care.

What you will bring to the role

• Registered Nurse - Division 1 with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) AND extensive relevant post registration experience in child and adolescent mental health experience
• Demonstrated ability to create and support a culture of integrity and professionalism which adheres to NSW Mental Health legislation and policy.
• Demonstrated high level of written and verbal communication skills and ability to liaise and negotiate with clinicians, managers, staff and other key stakeholders.
• Proven ability to ensure the human, physical and financial resources of the unit/ward are managed to deliver safe and efficient health care within available resources.
• Excellent leadership skills and the ability to motivate, inspire and manage staff to achieve service and organizational goals utilising change management principles.
• Evidence of and commitment to patient/client/customer focused care, clinical governance and quality improvement.
• Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment.
• Current Driver's License and ability to travel within the LHD as required.
