The Role:

We have an opportunity for a Quality Assurance Manager to join our Above Water Systems team. This role will primarily support the RMP East (Fleet Maintenance) project based at Garden Island. You will be responsible for delivering quality assurance across operations, driving improvements to meet quality objectives, reducing risk, and minimising the Cost of Non-Quality.

You will apply a risk-based approach to ensure compliance, address deficiencies, certify products, and mitigate risks. In collaboration with the Head of Quality, you may issue Alerts or Vetoes when necessary to maintain standards and prevent issues.

The RMP East project is focused on modernising defence capabilities and strengthening regional partnerships, with an emphasis on operational readiness and security. You will manage complex project requirements and stakeholder expectations to ensure quality benchmarks are achieved and systemic risks are addressed early.

This role requires strong collaboration across cross-functional teams to implement quality assurance strategies aligned with project goals and customer requirements, while fostering a culture of quality throughout the project lifecycle.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Mobilise cross-functional teams to drive critical quality outcomes and align with project objectives
  • Develop and communicate structured roadmaps outlining key milestones, deliverables, and quality expectations
  • Identify potential challenges and proactively implement solutions to streamline processes
  • Detect and manage risks early, applying robust solutions to support strategic goals
  • Evaluate operational performance and provide clear reporting of quality metrics to inform decision-making
  • Oversee internal, customer, and third-party certification activities (e.g. ISO 9001, ISO 55001, ISO 17025)
  • Plan and implement TIMS maturity assessments and audit schedules to improve business outcomes

Highly Desirable Qualifications & Skills

  • Tertiary qualifications in engineering or a related technical discipline
  • Audit qualifications (e.g. Lead Auditor) desirable
  • Extensive experience in quality management, ideally within an industrial or systems engineering environment
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems
  • Strategic influencing skills to drive improvements across all levels of the organisation
  • Analytical and problem-solving capabilities, ideally with experience in tools such as 8D
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to prepare and present reports effectively
  • Confidence and diplomacy to challenge insufficient quality or non-compliance when necessary
