About Us?
The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health Ltd was established by its founding members to provide a coordinated/integrated approach to the planning, development and delivery of comprehensive primary health care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations within the Southeast Qld Region.
The IUIH West Moreton Mental Health Hub aims to provide comprehensive assessment treatment and assertive outreach support to clients presenting with moderate to severe mental health needs. Working in a unique multidisciplinary care team as an extension of the IUIH comprehensive model of care, along with integration with the West Moreton mental Health teams to provide appropriate and responsive care to clients would otherwise not access support or require inpatient care.
About the Role?
The position is responsible for the delivery of clinical assessments and evidence based therapeutic mental health interventions, in accordance with the Institute Model of Care and providing culturally appropriate comprehensive and flexible mental health psychological services to Indigenous clients and their families as a member of a multi-disciplinary primary health care team.
Your day to day duties may include:
- Manage a case load of complex cases, providing psychological services in accordance with a GP Mental Health Plans/Chronic Care Plans, and/or team care arrangements as applicable.
- Provide culturally appropriate comprehensive and flexible mental health psychological service to clients identified with mental health problems, who are referred by CCHS's, GPs, and other relevant services; including clinical assessment, goals for intervention, treatment planning and evaluation, psychological services and referral in accordance with professional, ethical, and relevant Mental Health standard.
- Assess all clients for possible comorbid conditions (especially mental illness) and ensure appropriate treatment for those conditions (either directly or by referral and ongoing liaison with other specialist services). To ensure that all clients receive ongoing risk assessment and management.
- Provide client education sessions for chronic disease self-management.
Provisional Psychologist specific:
- Employment as a Provisional Psychologist is underpinned by the regulatory guidelines provided by the Psychology Board of Australia via AHPRA. Specifically, this reference- Registration Standard (Provisional Registration), Guidelines for the 4+2 Internship Program.
- As part of the employment contract, IUIH will provide a clinical supervisor with an approved supervisor qualification with AHPRA for both Primary and Secondary Supervisor roles. The employee can engage the services of additional secondary supervisors at their discretion and own cost.
- Immediately on commencing employment, the Primary Supervisor and the PP will work together to develop a Supervised Practice Plan per AHPRA guidelines. The Institute will provide employment and practice opportunities to enable the PP candidate to develop competence in the eight Core Competencies as comprehensively detailed in the Guidelines for the 4+2 Internship Plan.
- This may include needing to work in areas or services of the IUIH health services beyond the Position Description in order to meet the practice requirements (e.g. opportunities for psychometric assessment, working across the lifespan).

- Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD)
- Relevant bachelors degree qualification
- Current AHPRA registration
Provisional Psychologists:
- Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD)
- Relevant bachelors degree qualification
- Eligible for AHPRA 2+ Provisional Psychology Pathway
- Current Criminal History Check
- Current Blue Card
Desirable, but not mandatory:
- Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and /or communities
