Specialist Aboriginal Family Violence Case Manager – Winyanboga Nangha

Full-time, 38 hours a week

Rotation Roster including weekends and overnight stays

T his is an Aboriginal Designated Position, classified under 'special measures' of Section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.

About the Role

The Aboriginal Family Violence Case Manager – Winyanboga Nangha will support the team to deliver high quality, culturally safe and effective responses using an Aboriginal Family Violence Integrated response. The Case Manager will assist with screening, assessment, triage, and short-term support to residents and ensure the delivery of wrap around services. As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will have experience, knowledge, and skills in delivering Aboriginal family violence services, a strong understanding of the complexities of Aboriginal family violence, and the impact of family violence on victim-survivors across all ages, and perpetrators. You will have knowledge of the various service systems that client's interface with, and the advocacy required in these systems. In this role you will support Rumbalara Aboriginal Cooperative to deliver culturally safe and inclusive family violence services and where appropriate provide secondary consultations to internal and external stakeholders and proactively build cultural safety and competence. Rumbalara is funded to provide these services, and funding is subject to the delivery of specified targets in performance measures.

About You

To excel in this position, you should possess the following qualifications and qualities:

  • You are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
  • As per the minimum mandatory qualifications requirements (Royal Commission into Family Violence Recommendation 209) all candidates wishing to apply for this role must be able to demonstrate that they meet minimum qualification requirements or equivalency principles, i.e. candidates are required to hold a Bachelor of Social Work or other equivalent qualification; or are considered exempt under the Policy; or have a minimum of 5 years relevant professional experience; or a related qualification as per the mandatory minimum qualifications requirement; or hold significant cultural knowledge and experience, lived experience, and/or have faced barriers to educational pathways (note Mandatory Requirements).
  • Strong knowledge of Aboriginal culture, and self-determination: Has a strong understanding of the local service delivery environment, families and community including Rumbalara Aboriginal Cooperative.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal Family Violence : Has established experience and capability to deliver culturally safe and responsive practice as part of a family violence integrated service model. Has a strong understanding of the role of the law and legal system in the context of responding to family violence; has knowledge of practice with Aboriginal women, children, families, victims, and perpetrators of family violence; has experience working in multi-disciplinary and multi-agency contexts.
  • Works collaboratively to drive cultural change: Has a clear concept of the culture required to deliver effective, culturally safe, and responsive services for Aboriginal people within an integrated practice context. Delivers innovative practices that enhance quality practice standards for Aboriginal people; and understands how to build and establish an effective practice culture.
    Self-management: Invites feedback on own behaviour and impact; uses new knowledge or information about self to build a broader understanding of own behaviour and the impact it has on others; understands strong emotional reactions and seeks ways to more effectively manage them.
