
Kinship Care Case Contracting Worker

This role provides culturally safe case management, family engagement, and placement support to ensure children's safety, stability, and cultural identity are upheld.
In this role, you will:Deliver case management and support for Aboriginal children in kinship care placements
Develop and implement care, cultural, and safety plans in partnership with families and DFFH
Support kinship carers with assessments, training, and practical assistance
Facilitate family engagement, reunification planning, and cultural connection activities
Prepare reports, assessments, and referrals to ensure quality and compliance
About You:Qualified in Social Work or Community Services (or equivalent)
Strong case management and assessment skills with trauma-informed practice knowledge
Understanding of Aboriginal culture, kinship systems, and the impact of intergenerational trauma
Experience in out-of-home care, child protection, or family services
Excellent communication, cultural safety, and teamwork skills

Selection CriteriaEssential:
Qualifications
- A recognised Social Work Degree or Diploma of Community Services qualification which includes:
- a) primary focus on child development, human behaviour, family dynamics and/or impacts of trauma; and
- b) preferably a practical component such as counselling or case work practice
Skills
- Demonstrated case management and assessment skills, including the ability to develop and implement care plans that are trauma-informed, culturally safe and child-centred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write clear, analytical reports and court documents
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust-based, culturally respectful relationships with Aboriginal families, children, carers and community members
- Proficient computer and administrative skills, including the use of CRIS, CRISSP and Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to manage competing demands, make sound decisions under pressure and respond to crisis situations with cultural and emotional intelligence
Experience
- Experience in kinship care, foster care, child protection, family support or out-of-home care case management
- Experience in navigating referrals to services and establishing linkages to support carers and children.
- Demonstrated understanding of the impact of trauma, grief and loss on Aboriginal children and families
- Knowledge of the local Aboriginal community, people and cultural connection needs of Aboriginal children and young people.
- Experience with case management, care planning and service referrals.
- Familiarity with the Children, Youth, and Families Act 2005 (CYFA 2005) and the Aboriginal Child Placement Principles.
Satisfactory evidence of
- Pre-employment checks not limited to at least two professional referees
- Proof of identity and qualifications
- National police check, Working with Children's, full Victorian driver's license
- Disclosure of any pre-existing illness/injury and vaccination status in line with Njernda's current policy and procedure.
