Welfare Officer

Join the passionate Welfare & Engagement team to assist wellbeing of detainees in care
Plan, manage & conduct structured and progressive gym programs and activities
Fulltime position based in Northam WA working 7-day rotating roster 12-hour shifts

About the role
The Gym Activities Officer is expected to actively contribute to the achievement of the Serco Governing Principles and the Department’s Immigration Detention Values and accomplish excellent levels of service in the assigned responsibilities of this role. Reporting to the Welfare & Engagement Co-ordinator, this is a full-time position based at our Yongah Hill Immigration Detention Centre (YHIDC) based in Northam WA. This key role will maintain a positive and healthy community by providing sporting, recreational, gym education, life skills and leisure activities.

About you
You are an experienced and qualified Gym Activities Officer and will ideally hold considerable experience in planning, managing & conducting structured and progressive gym & sport programs and activities for groups. You have experience working in a diverse environment and demonstrated capacity to engage persons of varying cultural backgrounds. You will also have proven skills in community development. You will be able to conduct a needs analysis and then produce specific programs based on the needs of your class. You can develop relationships within the community, encouraging volunteers and follow & review policies and procedures. You’re a respectful and professional person who demonstrates exceptional moral values in everything you do.

**To be successful in this role, you will have**:
The highest levels of personal integrity and ethical behaviour
Cert 3 Fitness / Gym Management and be a current member of AUSactive or affiliated body
Level 1 or Community standard ASC Sport Coaching Accreditation
Develop, manage and deliver schedule for structured & unstructured physical activities program
Ensure activities are meaningful and encourage detainees to participate
Conduct appropriate regular maintenance audits and ensure plans are developed and maintained for all gyms and equipment used
Identifying, coordinating and promoting life skills for our detainees
Responding to enquiries from detainees regarding their requests for activities
Maintain accurate records of all activities conducted
Manage Individual Allowance Programs (IAP) and record attendance
Substantial experience in conducting structured programs for adults and/or families

**Additional Requirements**:
Hold and maintain HLTAID009 (previously known as HLTAID001) Provide CPR and HLTAID011 (previously known as HLTAID011) Provide First Aid certificates with at least 6 months currency on the certificate
Current Working with Children Check
Current Australian Driver’s License
