Do you want your work to make a difference for NSW?
Together, we create thriving environments, communities and economies.
- Ongoing, full-time opportunity
- Office location: Newcastle (or other BCT office in the Sydney–Hunter Region by negotiation and availability)
- Access to a range of flexible work arrangements including work from home in accordance with government requirements
- Salary from $130,506 to $143,921 plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading
The NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust (BCT), as part of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW), is currently seeking to appoint a Regional Team Leader to join our Sydney–Hunter team.
About the role
Our workforce is expanding and we have an exciting opportunity for a Hunter Team Leader to join our leadership team. Working alongside the Sydney–Hunter Regional Manager and the Sydney Team Leader, you'll provide day-to-day guidance and support for several operational staff (up to five direct reports) while contributing directly to the delivery of private land conservation programs across the BCT's Sydney–Hunter region. This includes overseeing the quality of staff outputs such as annual reports and acting as a point of escalation on agreement assurance matters. The role also encompasses landholder support and customer service; communications and stakeholder engagement; project management; conservation assessment, monitoring and evaluation.
This new role will lead the delivery of some of our most rewarding and high-impact work, including programs such as the Conservation Management Program and Conservation Partners Program across the Sydney–Hunter region. These programs involve engagement with landholders and stakeholders to protect and enhance some of the region's most important biodiversity. You'll guide a committed team in partnership with the Sydney–Hunter Regional Manager and Sydney Team Leader, overseeing on-ground conservation projects and see the direct results of your work in healthier habitats. You will also provide guidance on tricky matters, helping team members navigate challenges and apply consistent approaches. The role will also contribute to biodiversity offsets, including Biodiversity Stewardship Agreements and Condition of Consent Conservation Agreements, providing variety and scope to influence conservation outcomes across the region.
About you
You are a collaborative leader who enjoys working with people and delivering results through a team. You have strong oral and written communication skills, practical approaches to problem solving and the ability to balance priorities in a complex environment. You bring experience in project/program delivery, an understanding of conservation or natural resource management, and a commitment to supporting both your staff and the people you work with. You also have a sharp eye for detail to ensure accuracy in compliance, monitoring and reporting. Above all, you are adaptable, organised and motivated to make a positive difference for biodiversity.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Experience in managing multidisciplinary teams
- Relevant tertiary qualification and/or extensive experience in natural resource management or biodiversity conservation
- A current driver's licence and willingness to travel.
