Primary objective

Contribute to the delivery and development of a range of interventions and assessments to youth residing within the Alice Springs

Paperbark Facility, with a view to reducing youth offending, supporting wellbeing and ensuring safe return to community. Provide

case management/coordination, contribute to throughcare planning with young person and family, and facilitate psycho-

educational individual and group programs to enhance opportunities and rehabilitation of youth offenders. Work in conjunction

with the Community Youth Justice team to enhance culturally appropriate service delivery in the youth detention centre.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Contribute expertise and case management skills to inform Throughcare planning that is culturally responsive and tailored to

individual needs of the young person.

2. Consult with clients and their family regarding Throughcare planning, endeavouring to achieve a positive impact upon the social

and emotional well-being of youth.

  1. Facilitate group and individual programs that support the school engagement and wellbeing of youth.
  2. Liaise with external agencies and families to deliver effective and culturally appropriate coordinated throughcare, welfare and

support services.

  1. Provide written case notes and Throughcare plans.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated ability to apply a high level of both written and oral communication skills when working with clients, families,

employees, external stakeholders and agency staff.

  1. Ability to work with and understand the issues and obstacles that will arise when working with youth and their families within

a complex and restricted environment.

  1. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with clients from diverse backgrounds, including cultural, religious, economic

educational and language.

  1. Possess considerable relevant experience working with youth at risk in providing programs, preferably within a residential

environment.

  1. In-depth knowledge regarding the application of interventions that are evidenced to be effective when working with both

indigenous and non-indigenous youth at risk.

  1. Strong knowledge of case management and through care services and how they might best be applied within a residential

environment.

  1. Well-developed knowledge and skills in using office-based computer software and a range of other databases.
  2. Ability to drive an NTG vehicle.

Desirable

1. Relevant qualifications in a behavioural science field, youth case management or an associated discipline.

2. Knowledge of contemporary youth justice issues within the NT context.

The preferred or recommended applicant will be required to hold a current Working with Children Clearance notice and undergo

a criminal history check. A criminal history will not exclude an applicant from this position unless it is a relevant criminal history.

Position requires the ability to work rostered weekend shifts and on-call work.
